Leather storage case for 146, Le Grand, and Classique

Hi all-

Sorry if this has been discussed before but I could not find a good answer. I am helping my 80 year old father with many things but the latest issue is taking his MontBlanc collection out of a ziploc bag (yes, they are stored together in one big bag with no protection between them) and finding a suitable storage solution. I think he would prefer a leather case but would also consider something, such as a box, to be on his desk at home. Nothing cheap from Amazon or AliExpress but nothing over a few hundred dollars either. The issue is I cannot find anything that will actually fit the LeGrand and/or 146/149 pens. Here is his collection:

Classique pencil

Classique ballpoint x2

Classique rollerball (metal, not silver cap)

Le Grand rollerball

LeGrand highlighter

146 (or maybe a 149) fountain pen x2

They are all classic black/gold (except for the metal cap one)

Thank you for any help, information, or links to product pages.

I suggest you start with Galen Leathers or Shibui Leathers. There are other great options with Lochby, Peg and Awl, Lamy without too much cost. And of course, MB has their own branded items if you want to splurge.

Montblanc once had Leather Stackable Module, actually is a 8 pen leather drawer can put on the desk. Will fit 146/149 and even giant pen such as Moctezuma.

I have one bought in 2021 but now it is discontinued. The larger version (hold 12 pens) is still available at appelboom for similar price (about Euro 580).

One case for 8 pens may be difficult to find.  I would suggest two 4X cases.  One for the Classiques, the other for the Meisterstücks.  I have four very well made protective leather cases from Lupus.  Konrad is happy to adjust dimension, choice of colours of both leather and threading to fit your needs/wishes.

Add lightness and simplicate.

There are actually pen cases that are way cheaper than Galen. If your dad uses ziploc bags, he probably is bulking at the prices of leather pen cases. Try getting Kaco fabric pen cases from online. They are $20 if at that for their 10 pen case. I have at least 7-10 of these Kaco cases.

This is a very good question and one I have been struggling with recently. I have a Monblanc 20 pen piano black collector box, which is superb. I wanted a case to store my non Montblanc pens in as space recently in the box is being pushed! I toyed with getting a Galen Leathers one, but in the end went and purchased a 12 pen case from Pineider https://www.pineider.com/en/products/pen-case-12-149. I must confess to being against elastic 'straps holding pens in place as I feel it will cause wear marks on the barrels of the pens and hence looked at Galen and Pineider.

I also have a Pineider 6-pens case, which I use to store my Omas Grand Paragons, which in size are more or less (perhaps a bit more) like a Montblanc 149.

The case, the leather and finishing are, in my opinion, superb, and well worth the not-exorbitant price of these models by Pineider.

Cheap leather is generally not a good idea. You need to be sure the chemicals used for tanning and dyeing are not going to leach out and ruin things it is in contact with.

The leather industry and supply chain is itself not reliable in its labelling either so if you really want a good leather case, you'll need to pay.

You might find a silk or other fabric case/roll more appropriately priced that will work better.

If it is for storage and use, I would favor a zippered case, one of those with elastic straps to hold the pens. I have on I was given by my wife as a birthday present for 10 pens, from a reputable leather goods maker. It takes five pens on each side and has a separator in the middle so they don't touch. Mine's straps are too small for larger pens, but I am sure there are larger ones. Sorry, I do not have any pic at hand now but can take one once back home.

Another possibility is to get one made to order. Then you can choose the design you want.

And finally, you can get one-pen leather cases and keep the pens in the zippered bag, but each in its own leather case. That's what I do to carry my pens to-from work.

There, I fitted two in a single sleeve for they are both slim, an MB Slimline and an Aurora Hastil. Normally I keep each pen in its own sleeve and carry about 4-6 pens.

If you are to be ephemeral, leave a good scent.

I too went for the Pineider 12 pen case for my pens on my desk. I think it is excellent. Although I am slightly covetous of the Galen Leather 12 pen flap cover case with its removable tray: https://www.galenleather.com/collections/leather-flap-pen-cases/products/leather-magnum-opus-12-slots-hard-pen-case-with-removable-pen-tray-crazy-horse-brown

Quite like the concept of the tray.
