Properties of Wearingeul inks?

AndyYNWA

Recommended Posts

I've been absent from the fountain pen world for a couple of years (I've still used the pens, but not bought anything new), so coming back I've noticed that there are a couple of new ink brands around.

Wearingeul has captured my interest. However, there are still not especially many reviews of their different inks. Many pictures of ink on fancy paper, but no reviews.

I'm mostly interested in the properties, especially regarding feathering and spread. I'm allergic to inks that feather and spread. How do these inks perform?

Hi,

I'm also a fan of this Korean ink brand at least for their literature and names :)

That being said, reading Demian was underwhelming.  I can understand for its time it could been mind blowing the spoiler.

But perhaps at this time, I found it obvious and pedantic.  Perhaps in original language the prose is more poetic or captivating.

Nonetheless, the two inks Lost and Mature are lovely pale inks.  Lost is the more interesting as it shifts color.  Both have a good degree of water resistance.  There is no feathering that I've noticed on Rhodia pads or Copy paper.  I had thought Lost may be iron gall but apparently it is not according to Vanness inks.  I asked wearingeul and they did not have a pH value for that ink specifically but said all their inks are designed to have a pH between 7-9.

Both inks are on the drier side.  In some pens, I have used a touch of White Lightening to make it flow better.  Actually in general, I find the inks to be on the direr side.

The other inks I have less experience with but enjoy are MacBeth, I am a Cat, and Path.  Of these Path is my favorite.  It could be a replacement for Ina-Ho.  The Gold shimmer seems subtle and flow is descent without adding anything.  MacBeth has a really interesting purple-gray tone... but the shimmer is very hard to view.  It's more subtle as a purple shimmer I suppose.  This ink of all is also the driest and most prone to railroading...  I am a Cat is a neat ink.  I haven't found the best pen/combo for it.  It is more gray and a lighter tone.  Pretty readable but my least favorite.  These inks do also have a good degree of water resistance and I have not noted any spread/feathering.

You mention you've seen lots of pictures already, but I'll try to add some of my own later.

This is Lost ink w/ a slight contaminant of Path from the next page.  It is hard to capture the actual color change.  This is written on Tome River paper w/ a flex nib.

This is Macbeth.  as you can see the railroading happens around Macbeth.  It is the most finicky ink and I'm not sure if it's the shimmer or the ink itself.  I may refill w/ a toothpick touch of white lightning.  I tried the hardest to get a photo showing any glimmer... could be a plus if you want a subtle shimmering ink.

Thanks for posting the writing images.  I keep looking at the Wearingeul inks (especially the "Alice in Wonderland" and "Oz" lines) but have yet to try any (plus, if you believe my husband I have way too much ink anyway...).

edited for typos

"It's very nice, but frankly, when I signed that list for a P-51, what I had in mind was a fountain pen."

On the other hand "Path" is much easier to demonstrate its lovely shimmer.  Probably my favorite shimmer ink... the combo looks great and it flows decent.  Not passable for formal work unless your work is doing wedding invitations :)  This is again written on Tomoe River paper.

I hope others will contribute their knowledge and experience with this ink.

I am also curious about buying their glimmer potions which you can supposedly add to any other ink.  Usual caveats being to test a small sample/batch first...

you're welcome.  I think all of us here have too much ink :)  I have not yet tried the Alice in Wonderland inks or Oz lines though they look great.  Those stories are fine but not my favorite.  I am looking to read "I am a Cat" and if it's good I'll try the ink again.   I bought full bottles of these inks so I actually encourage my wife to freely use *any* of my inks for painting or art projects:)  As someone who always finished every spoonful of food growing up, it is hard learning to stop eating when you're full or to throw away a meal which disappoints.  I have similar issues w/ ink but I'm learning to stick with what gives me joy using and empty a pen if the ink isn't making me happy.

Btw, this channel did some really good reviews/exploration of the Alice line.  I think the Queen of Hearts may be interesting for me...

Positive new that you haven't noticed any feathering on copy paper.
I have quite OK paper at work, but if the ink has bad properties it can feather anyway.
