I know you mentioned something about shrinking celluloid but this one is seems fine.

Wait, celluloid shrinks?  Is this the kind of thing where the cap no longer fits on the barrel?  Or is it more link a cosmetic change?

When I find myself looking at the 3776,  I do gravitate towards the celluoid models.  I'd have bought one long ago, but I can't decide what nib size I want.  This is a case where  indecisiveness has helped me save money...

“We can't trust the Platinum not being plated too”.  Ever the skeptic.  That would be disappointing wouldn’t it?

Certainly I like the appearance of the yellower gold. No question.  But do we feel any doubt that the 21k nibs are actually 21k?

When the nib is  first introduced, in my imagination, I picture this design dynamic:

Engineer: Boss, these 21k nibs are great.  It's just what you asked for.

Boss: But these don't look any different from our 14k models!

Engineer: Well, we could add plating so  it so it really looks different...

Boss: Let's go with that.

But then, after time, that extra cost for plating really takes away from profitability.  So it has to go.  The nib is (hopefully) still 21k, but we lose the deluxe appearance.  That what I imagine, anyway.

It is more like all, cap and barrel shrink. That can be a pain in a piston filler, for, if not used for a very long time, the body may shrink all around the piston disk (it can't where the disk doesn't allow it to shrink) and then mobilizing the piston again is a pain if it doesn't break the pen.

I have one such vintage piston filler where the barrel shows where the piston disk stayed for so long, although it is not so bad as to be unusable yet.

If you are to be ephemeral, leave a good scent.

Oh, I see.  Indeed not a good thing...

And here's the rub, because in that scenario, the whole plating scheme was set up to deceive.

Oh those!  Interestingly here's a link that describes them as filled with Tomoe River paper.

https://www.baum-kuchen.net/products/idea-notebook-tomoe-river-paper

It looks like the same thing... but not 100% sure.

That's interesting...  But why would Kokuyo make a notebook and not use their own thin paper?

Then I found this in one of the translated reviews by a Japanese poster:

"As a notebook, I think it has a grid and is easy to use.
However, it seems that it is no longer
Tomo River, so please be careful if you like Tomo River.
By the way, if it's a fountain pen, it's slightly reflected back."

I think that's the "Thin".

Here's another link that talks about the two types of paper Kokuyo uses in their planner products

https://www.kokuyo.com/en/products/jibun_techo/paper/

There's Thin Paper, one of whose attributes is to be easy to erase and there's MIO Paper  which is presented as smooth and supple.  The Idea notebook is Thin and the Life notebook is Mio.

Looking around for the aforementioned "Kokuyo Campus Report Pad," Jetpens says (in the specs) that the paper is "Kokuyo Letter Writing Paper" at 50 g.  Several of the Jetpens customer reviews compare it favorably  to Tomoe River, but more opaque.

There are options!

Well look what you found. 👍

That's exactly what I was looking at on the Kokuyo Store site.

The original K-Thin was 52gsm but it looks like this is their "Thin Paper" now.

I bought the Kokuyo Idea B6 slim 2 pk. on Amazon today, and have some View Corona in a Yamamoto Sampler. @Lithium466, the Kokuyo thin you sent is beautiful. The Lamy Turmaline took forever to dry and my sleeve smeared it, unfortunately.  I like the way it feels while writing and inks look very nice on the page. It’s very similar to Kinbor in appearance, but I need to dig that notebook out to judge behavior.

A full spectrum desk lamp I got from Amazon a while ago.  The Lamy Turmaline is also a sheen monster on this paper, and the shimmer inks look great. I have to clean up the pictures a bit before I put them in the gallery to post.
