Esterbrook nib removal help?

So um..... I found some of my grandmothers pens but the nibs wouldn't unscrew...so I soaked and soaked...no luck...heat...no luck...then um this happened!!!

Nib and feed started to turn but inside the collar - didn't take much after that for them to just both come out :(

Never had anything like this happen with any Esterbrook model!!

Any idea how I get the collar out...thinking I may have to somehow break it off in pieces while inside the section??

maybe shellac back in and go again with heat? soak and heat worked on the other pens - just not this one

The nib and feed should go back in where they were.  Look carefully and you'll see the impression left by the nib and feed. Then soak the nib (up to the top of the section only) in water for a day or two.  That should soften the dried ink that has locked the threads.  The warm a bit over a hair dryer and try again.  It should come loose.

Thanks @Ron Z

Sounds like more of the same as that was the process I used for another of her pens....just kind of shocked me when the nib and feed spun in the housing and came out!! Maybe an opportunity to swap in a non Esterbrook nib???

Possible.  I would use the same feed though.  Make sure that they are similar in size and radius.

Well.....it probably was 'wrong' but even after re-insertion more soaking and heat the nib and feed keep spinning - so I have a slotted screw driver an noticed the head goes from thin to thick  - I was able to just snug it in, but just , so it put a little pressure on the sides so that it had purchase and the green sleeve unscrewed!!

Sure hope I don't run into this with future Esterbrooks!!

Now to track down some Testors 3502? to fix a tiny crack in my red Esterbrook SJ cap - I have lots of acetone in the garage but it seems the Testors is the way to go?

Didn't realize I had these pens until I uncovered them while going through boxes in the garage - as I say - these were my Grandmothers, so I am pleased they don't seem to need sacs (although I have done 2 before - so super experienced!!!) and that I can have them writing again
