Are All These # 6 Nibs?

Is the Sonnet or Sheaffer a #5 and the Pilot a #7 or are they all #6s?

I've been curious about this.

Weigh in.......

I apologize for the unprofessional cellphone pic

Can't speak to them all, but Pilot uses their own numbering system for nibs, your 743 has a #15 but it's fairly approximate to a #6 Bock/JoWo.

I know the PenBBS and the Momento Zero nibs are interchangeable with Jowo #6s, Jinhao and Kaigelu.  Not sure about the others.

A #6 nib is 35mm long and fits a 6mm wide feed.

Pilot #15 has a 6.4mm feed

Add lightness and simplicate.

Any info on the other pens?

1911L has a 6.4mm feed.  Your handy micrometer will tell you the width of the others. :)

A JoWo #6 nib is that.

Yet, many hobbyists insists on calling PenBBS's typical 33.5mm-long nibs and Wing Sung's 32mm-long nibs “#6”. I can sorta go along with (tolerating) that, if it's understood to them that they're deliberately choosing convenience (or laziness) in expression with the trade-off of “#6” no longer having any meaning in terms of compatibility and interoperability.

What I find very disagreeable is the apparent belief that, “if we insist on calling those nibs ‘#6’, then they'll eventually be interchangeable between pen models from different makes and different countries of origin.”

I endeavour to be frank and truthful in what I write, show or otherwise present, when I relate my first-hand experiences that are not independently verifiable; and link to third-party content where I can, when I make a claim or refute a statement of fact in a thread. If there is something you can verify for yourself, I entreat you to do so, and judge for yourself what is right, correct, and valid. I may be wrong, and my position or say-so is no more authoritative and carries no more weight than anyone else's here.

As is Bock and Schmidt.  Bock and Jowo nibs are/have been used by; Caran D'Ache, Cleo-Skribent, Conid, Conklin, Conway Stewart, Danitrio, Delta, Diplomat Dupont, Eboya, Edison, Faber Castell, Graf vin Faber Castel, Franklin Christopk, Goulet,

Katas custom, Montegrappa, Monteverde, Onoto, Scheaffer, Signum, Stipula, TWSBI, Viscont, Yard-o Led and, undoubtedly, others.

Add lightness and simplicate.

Bock has no #6 nib in its official nomenclature, any more than PenBBS, Wing Sung, HongDian, Jinhao, and Kaigelu does. Furthermore, the geometry of a Bock type 250 nib is not identical to that of a JoWo #6 nib, and therefore need not be perfectly interchangeable with such.

6 nibs sit on 6mm feeds.  #5 nibs sit on 5mm feeds.  Hence the commonly accepted nib nomenclature.  I have mounted  #6 Jowo nibs on #6 Bock (250) feeds and  vice versa.  I have also successfully mounted # 6 Jowo nibs on Jinhao pens, as well as Bock #6 (250) on a Kaigelu.

I'm happy to use those commonly accepted.terms.  You, of course, are happily free to not accept.

Add lightness and simplicate.

I've done similar things. 👍
