That doesn't have anything to do with amazon.com.  It just means that the seller, who in this case is Amazon Japan expects to get the item back in stock in that amount of time.  In my experience that means there is about a 50% chance that the item will ever be restocked.

Thanks! This is very tempting. The M900 has been on my Maybe List for a while—the subsection of my Wish List for pens where I can’t decide whether I want the pen to have an example of it or WANT want it. The Nakaya Decapod Twist in Midori Tamenuri was on that list, and Nakaya made the decision for me on both fronts :’)

Just checked on some of the links.

In the information on the site it says that the item will ship in 6-8 weeks.

We pay immediately.

Our money is not available for our use for AT LEAST that amount of time.

The seller (Amazon?) has use of our money for that time at NO COST to them.

They earn interest on "XXX" amount of money (times 100s/1000s) as deposits for 1-2 months.

So, they make money by doing nothing for many products over extended periods of time.

Sounds, to me, like a fantastic way to make money by doing nothing!

And then, if they cancel, they give you the money and keep whatever they accrued in interest.

Brilliant... SADLY, Brilliant...

Amazon does not charge until an item ships.  But when that item is finally back in stock & Amazon Japan ships it, you will be billed without prior notice because you originally bought it.  And in my experience the 4-6 weeks can easily be 4-6 months.  It is quite a shock to be hit with a large charge without notice.

One Pelikan M900 <f> is available, 1 left, for $1171,  $1240 with Vermont state tax and US tariff:

https://www.amazon.com/Pelikan-M900-Toledo-Fountain-Black/dp/B000CN5OVA/ref=sr_1_1?keywords=pelikan+m900&m=A3GZEOQINOCL0Y&qid=1686439641&s=merchant-items&sr=1-1

I have had a lot of luck finding pens from Amazon Japan.     I did cancel two pen orders over the past year, the last in August 2022.   I tend to wait for pens to be in stock.    I have bought Sailor, Pelikan, and Taccia pens at far below-going rates.

Here is a Taccia:

This pen is with a Music Nib for $609:

Normally, These pens go for nearly $1000.  They are limited to 288 pens.

Here is Sailor King of Pen Bold:

$400

Over a grand US for a M900?  Too rich for my blood....

Great haul!  I refer to the last year or so of Amazon Japan prices both on amazon.com and amazon.jp as the golden era, unlikely to return.  I purchased 13 of the 16 Pilot 742 nib options for a total of $1,500.  Tons of Platinum Presidents under $100 each, that same Platinum Izumo Akatame you've got and lots of my favorite Sailor Realos for around $150 each.  And a silly number of Sailor & Taccia inks at ridiculous prices.  Ah...the good old days!

  • 2 weeks later...

Man, I remember buying 2, on 2 separate occasions, for less than 900 each from cultpens and it was totally normal. The price on these sure went up.

Thank you!  After much hemming and hawing, I ordered an all black Pelikan M1000 and I hope it comes with box and papers.  I ordered but canceled the M805 with blue barrel - I canceled because it had some low star ratings because people were complaining it didn't come with any packaging.  Hopefully these are real pens and these aren't problematic pens!  Pelikan had a batch of bad nibs and there have been many unlucky fellas it seems judging from the comments.  I'm a Montblanc pen user, a happy one at that.  And I'm hoping that I'll like the Pelikan and get a slightly different experience!  Some people have told me the Pelikan nib is slightly springier and ever so slightly wetter.  I do like my nibs wet!  Thanks again to the original poster for mentioning this interesting deal!

Yes, the M1000 writes wetter.  Also, the nib writes a wider line.  For example, the EF writes more like a FM.

I believe in Germany it is common that these pens officially come without a box, and a box is a separate expense, though most dealers give you no choice and always include the box.

My 1005 F wrote like a B.  Anabelle transformed it into a 0.5 CI.  Edelstein Moonstone goes down almost black with this pen, unlike the correct gray with the M800.

Add lightness and simplicate.
