Extra Fine Nib Ink Review: Diamine Jalur Gemilang

This is review #235 in my series. Here's the YouTube video:

Post-recording notes: This ink is exclusive for PenGallery, Malaysia. Surprisingly, Robert Oster Blue Sea is the only ink I have close to this color. Cleaning was easy with plain water, but required plenty of extra flushes because the ink is so concentrated.

The color of this ink is difficult. :) In the swatch, where it didn't sheen, the blue leans green, but not far enough to be teal.  But once it dries on paper, the green seems to disappear, leaving a darker bluer shade.  Then the red sheen forms - over everything, both lighter and darker areas as seen in the zoom, for example.  At that point, it's a very dark, almost purplish blue when the paper doesn't catch the light.  As soon as it catches the light, it's all sheen...

Zoomed in photo (The blue part doesn't show the green lean.  But this is the closest image I have.)

Screenshot (Ink too dark and unsaturated. Almost looks blue-black here, which is all wrong.)

Scan of Completed Review (I don't even know how to describe the wrongness here. :))

Absorbent Paper Close-up (top is puzzle paper like thick newsprint, bottom is old 20lb copy paper) (These are sort of right in the lighter parts, but the ink on the paper is a little darker and you can see the sheen on paper.)

Line width (One of the lines used for dry time. Magnification is 100x. The grid is 100x100µm. The scale is 330µm, with eleven divisions of 30µm each. The line width for this ink is roughly 263µm. With 235 inks measured, the average line width is 296µm.)

I've looked at clouds from both sides now…. 😆

Hmmm, a poiple ink (coz it LOOKS poiple) that I can't pronounce and can't get.

Yet, intriguing!  With all the color changes, sheening, and everything.  Thanks, @LizEF, once again, for the review and serial.  And do toothpicks count as sticks?

My latest ebook.   And not just for Halloween!

My other pen is a Montblanc.

Thanks!  I'll dust off the bottle and load it into the Pro Gear F for an extended scribble.

@Sailor Kenshin Cult's Diamine Maureen is similar.

Add lightness and simplicate.

Shades of OS Nitrogen! Pen Gallery, eh? Likely a very reasonable $14 a bottle but $50 postage to USA.

It's hard work to tell which is Old Harry when everybody's got boots on.

It's a strange one.  With the sheen, definitely purple-leaning; while wet, very blue; in some lights, it looks more green-leaning.  It's weird.

Might be better-behaved though - the sheen wasn't smeary (whereas some OS sheeners are rather smear-prone).

Looks like a very nice shade of dark blue, and with sheen! That's one more ink to add to the wish list.

If you are to be ephemeral, leave a good scent.

@Sailor Kenshin, Jalur Gemilang, is the name of Malaysian flag, which means the Stripes of Glory. According to Wikipedia.

Great review @LizEF  I guess the red sheen is to evoke the flag colours ;)

I'm curious to see, what @InesF will say about the correlation between the fine line, sheen, lubrication and Makhabesh's skewer :D

I had a laugh seeing that their exchanging cheeseburgers for kebabs 😛

Thanks, Yazeh.

@LizEF, if toothpicks count, then pickles.  And a popsicle off its included stick.  😆

Thanks, @yazeh!  And for the flag link.  Yes, that was my understanding and assumption of the sheen, too.  Perhaps the little bit of yellow (perhaps meant to be gold, not sure) on the flag is why sometimes it seems to lean green.

The ink is supposed to represent the Blue and the Red on the flag.

Thank you for another excellent review, and the continuing adventures of Quin, Makhabesh and Essri.

I have a stuffed dragon named Troublezs who would love to host Makhabesh and Essri as well.

Now I'm going to be ear worming that song for the next two days... (not that that's a bad thing, mind -- I always liked the Judy Collins cover of it :D).

So I'm not the only one who thought "purple" when I saw the close up shot?  And that is definitely some SERIOUS sheen going on....  Hmmmmm.

How hard is this to get in the US?  (Oh, like I really need another ink.... :headsmack:)

Not hard at all when a kind Aussie ships it to you.  If you have to buy it from PenGallery in Malaysia, I have no idea. :D

I suspect @chromantic nailed it - shipping would cost more than the ink.

That's likely true.  But it is an interesting looking ink on the page....
