Good afternoon from Athens-Greece!

I am interested in the Pelikan M450 Tortoise Shell Green Fountain Pen with a Fine 18K two-tone golden nib (please see the attached photo) with two chicks on the Pelikan logo on both vermeil cap and golden nib. Is this pen available for sale in mint or used (but in excellent) condition?

Thanking you in advance.

Just chiming in to wish you good luck with the hunt, those have been not that easy to find for a long time, very pricey also as a result of limited availability/production numbers and other people wanting them too (It is one of the prettiest modern Pelikans, after all). :D There is one available on eBay, atm.

This is definitely one of the most beautiful Pelikan models. As it is long out of production your best bet would be a collector willing to sell his pen (not me), a lucky find in a pen show or a patient search on german ebay.

This is the M400 White Tortoise and is actually a current production model. Very different pen than what the OP asked about.

I just ordered a White Tortoise not 20 minutes ago and then stumble on this thread. That M450 is truly beautiful, good luck in your search.

I've seen a few go for high prices during bidding on ebay, and sold for similar prices at the DC show (~$600/650). The material is very similar to the m400, and the pen is actually a lot lighter in the hand than you might expect. I agree that the gold looks exceptional, but if you don't mind getting the same material without the gold, I'd recommend the white tortoise as a good alternative. I remember seeing it about 10 years ago at a pen show for the first time, and even then, it was expensive!

Your 450 looks outside of being seaweed green, looks a like my '52?-54 500, which has a lighter tortoise. .

I didn't know there was a 450.

 @flashylightsmeow@Bo Bo Olson. So what’s the difference between a 450 and a 500?

My 500 has a maxi-semi-flex nib, but would expect at least semi-flex for a 500 ('52-54). The 500n and 500nn didn't have a rolled gold piston cap.

Mine is an eyeball OBBB, but lesser width nibs could be had (no nib stamping and the piston knob was covered with a rolled gold cap.) Mine is a pure signature nib, way to wide to write much with. A 15 letter legal signature of mine takes 2/3rds to 3/4ths of a page.p59YGTJ.jpg7yK4wBF.jpg

The 500 is rolled gold cap and piston cap.

450 Cap and filling knob made from vermeil (gold plated sterling silver). M450 Light tortoise-striped (sort of green to me) / Gold 18 nib.

Rolled gold is much sturdier than gold plate.

It is a semi-nail with the fat and blobby double ball nib.

450 set:notworthy1:....I saw one at last Saturday's flea market, by a young man showing off his gift (I did have a Chinese fountain pen for sale at my table)...And he knew what he had, even if he is just a one fountain pen man.....wenn schoen, dann schoen...If so, then So!

Maxi-semi-flex stubbed nib...OBB perhaps....at least a BB.

The matching BP&MP were also delightful.

I have added that 450 to my want&need list, right up there with a late '30's full tortoise.
