Red Pen Club- Show Me Your Red Pens!

Penguincollector

Recommended Posts

So I have seen many of your blue and green pens, but my curiosity has not been at all sated and I need to see more pens. I offer a picture of my own scant collection of red pens. I have very few- but I like the ones I have. They are, from top to bottom: Parker Slimfold Broad , Ooly Splendid Pen, Jinhao 51a, and Ooly Writes (I think they are all EF).  Please share your red/burgundy pens here!

Rose-black Clipper( no name)...have in blue too. Semi flex non-stubbed nib, with the three tailed Super Constilation also called the Clipper. A plane I worked on. JQo5tID.jpg

The Wearever box was just a shipping box, the pen has nothing to do with Wearever or any other US pen. gLfkQFl.jpg

The three tailed plane is more visible.

Click for a better view.

The Super Connie/ Clipper (with a different paint job was the first USAF #1 Presidential plane used by Ike.)

IMO one of the sleekest most beautiful planes ever made. It was overly expensive in the body is framed from with decreasing  sized bracings to make it so aerodynamically sleek.

The DC-4 went with a fat cheaper to make same size bracing.8CA6AOj.jpg

4EuIwPH.jpg

The EC-121 the first AWAC's plane. This is a Navy model, and the picture is much prettier than the dull gray of my USAF model.

Notice the wing tanks. The EC-121 could fly for 12 hours.....and pale faced pilots were known to fly for 13.:huh:AIJmcm6.jpg

I also have a Pelikan 200's Ruby Star and the Amethyst if that counts as red.

I have a super tiny 4 inch red Rainbon pen I'll take my wife's handy and take a picture of it tomorrow.

In reference to P. T. Barnum; to advise for free is foolish, ........busybodies are ill liked by both factions.

Ransom Bucket cost me many of my pictures taken by a poor camera that was finally tossed. Luckily, the Chicken Scratch pictures also vanished.

That is seriously cool!  I would love to see the rest. The plane on the nib is the best part.

Thank you @Penguincollector for starting the Red Pen Club. I have a couple that missed this photo. I know now where one is. I need to locate the other one. The ones at the bottom of the photo just barely qualify with a bit of red. The German-Japanese Friendship Safari has a red finial.

Huh, it was more than a couple I forgot, including another two that barely qualify. The Levenger Pinkly, fourth from top, snuck in because it does lean red.

I know I have a few more, but these will serve as a "down payment."

That’s a very handsome down payment, @dms525!  Your Xmas pen is really cute, @Misfit! Do you have a red Snoopy pen?

I have one that might qualify. I’ll add it, and we can discuss if it is red or more at pink.

The blue Clipper....ni1P3um.jpg

I have two. One has my Rupp maxi-semi-flex nib on it. It was that first that I noticed was maxi-semi-flex nib and still the most flexible of my maxi's. Like regular flex, semi-flex, maxi, has a 3X tine spread............one of course can abuse the nib to more, but when will it spring?

Once Heidelberg was the fountain pen capitol of the world with some 7-8 or more Fountain pen companies. Degussa/Osmia, Rupp both started making nibs about 1922. Bock 1938.

Rupp stopped in 1970....Degussa @ 2000 when Multschler (and it's 1745 pens among other third tier pens closed down) I have a dirt cheap Reform pen, the top is gold colored metal, the bottom gold colored plastic....but it has an ever so nice spade semi-flex nib on it.

I couldn't let that great nib end up in a melt pile.

Tropen and the Original Reform fountain pwns were more expeort fountain pens than inland pens. Original Reform was first class. I have two war pens. Very solid. I keep forgetting to go into German Ebay to see if i can find some early '50's ones....very much in advance of pen design for then.

How good was Original Reform? As soon as the war was over his foreign wholesalers and sent him money in advance to buy supplies and get to making pens they wanted to sell again.

In the mid '50's when the ball point came in he closed down his factory rather than to make cheap fountain pens to try to compete with the ball point..........some years later he sold his factory to Mutchler.

The 1745 would have never been made on his watch.

...................

My other three other red pens; an English Parker Jr. Doufold with a semi-flex nib, the midget pen, and the Ruby Star will be show up after my wife's handy charges.

I read a book when I'm underway, not talking to distant people who are not at work, or play games....sort of old fashioned, so I don't need a handy. I've got a landline. Write me a letter for when and I'll be at the phone, when you call....Now that the beer gardens have opened...do write instead of calling in hope. :happyberet:

Sailor......Now, that's a hell of a lot of red pens.........

B)reminds me of my black collection.

The Rainbon is a rubber sac squeeze pen, a Violin maker from Slovakia gave me.

The Ruby Star works fine....though not quite as sparkely as expected when i ordered it through my B&M.

............I just found out why I hadn't been using that red Parker Duofold...It don't work....I had thought just to get the sac replaced but , that was finaggled and there nib lifts up off the feed. It goes in my mail to repair box....and fills it so it is time to mail to Francis.  I put it away and forgot it needed repair....when one has too many pens, weird stuff happens.

The English made semi-flex nib says,

14K

England

10....what ever that means

No nib size that I could find. Looks F to me.

With the P-51 hidden nib of the Rainbon, I suspect just after the war to mid '50's.

If you click the pictures you can get real large sizes. Larger than I expected.

Q4r84Ou.jpgXSbOPWq.jpg

I am using my greatly balanced, thin, medium=long Geha 725 Goldschwing, so find the balance of the jr. Duofold, somewhat lacking. Sort of clunky feeling...not as light as a DJ Esterbrook ... in memory. I'm not going to go dig it out. That's what happens when one has great balance in one pen verses good balance in another.

@dms525 I think we share a pen in common, the Delta Gallery Blue Moon pen. Mine has a stub nib.

So does mine! Mine is the steel nib with the little gold thingie on top. I have ordered another - a NOS one - with a gold stub. It should arrive Monday. From the vendor's photos, it has some yellow which my old one does not.

Wow, I am amazed at everyone’s red pen collecting abilities. I’m not huge on red, but there are more than a few that are really eye catching. There’s too many for me to shout out individually, but know that I have seen and admired all of your pens up to this post.
