What was your first fountain pen?

The first was a Sheaffer I picked up at a 7-11 near my home. Don't recall what it looked like even. Blue and yellow hang tag packaging, mid to late 1960's. My parents confiscated it within 24 hours and I never saw it again. The one I consider my first is a Lamy Al Star in a no longer available finish which was discontinued about 2013. I got mine in 1998 from Levenger. I seem to remember cost approached $50, but that could have been with shipping. If not at the same time, soon after I bought bottles of Levenger Raven Black and Cobalt Blue and a red marbled Waterman Phileas with fine nib. I would have one inked with black and one with  blue, for signatures on salesbtax returns.

Sometime in the early to mid 2000's it broke on the threads between section and cap while in my bag. I was able to get a new section/nib from LamyUSA. Still have it, but don't use it often as the other two Al Stars I have.

My first fountain pen was given to me as a gift from the physician I worked for.  It was a

green Waterman Phileas and was given to me in 1988/89.  He had come into my office to

sign some reports and he pulled out his Waterman Phileas.  I was fascinated by the looks of

the pen and asked if I could try writing with it.  When I said to him I would love to have

a pen like it, he gifted me with one (just not the same color as his).  I still have that same

pen in my collection and write with it about 3-4 times/yr.  I did replace the F. nib with a

med. nib and I do enjoy writing with my Phileas.  Here is a picture of a green Phileas,

A light blue Osmiroid 65 lever fill medium. More like a broad. Leaked a little after a while. I think I bought it in 1978. Died.

My first fountain pen was a Shaeffer cartridge pen back in the 60s. I used Shaeffer's throughout college as I was a poor college student. I have my father's Parker 51 (which I never use) as well as a couple of Waterman Phileas, some Pilots, and several Lamys. I have a couple of other Parker pens which the ink always seems to dry up in even though they are capped. My go to pens now are a Yookers Metis (actually a felt tip type but uses fountain pen ink) and an Ellington stealth. Being retired, I don't have the funds for the high dollar pens.  I love peoples' looks when they watch me write with a fountain pen - I am left handed and write from below the line.
