Yes, it‘s a very dark brown-gray ink. I‘ve seen a few reviews were it turned blueish-green - most likely due to pH.

For those who have handled the „around 80 days“ pens: are both first blue and second dark brown edition identical in color compared to the previous Petit Prince series of pens?

Yes, you're right.

 

It was in use in the classroom all day.

 

Smooth, easy to read, pleasantly shaded, without any issues.

 

As ever, the experts know best. As for me, it's an attractive, well-behaved ink.

 

It has a welcome place on my writing desk.

no problem! I was able to compare the Orient Express with the blue Le Petit Prince today. The Orient Express is less violet and slightly more bright.

Now we still need a comparison of the blue 80 days with either one of the other mentioned blue pens.

Or both dark brown Le Petit Prince and 80 days.

@Michael R. Until a member is able to post photos of these pens, perhaps my comments may help fill in the breach.

 

To the best of my knowledge, the blues of the YR2018 Le Petit Prince (LPP I), YR2021 Around the World in 80 Days London-Bombay (AtW80 I) and High Artistry Orient Express 1883 (OE 1883) are all different from one another.   Likewise, the browns of the YR2019 Le Petit Prince & Aviator (LPP II) and YR2023 Around the World in 80 Days Bombay-Yokohama (AtW80 II) are also different from each other.

 

The LPP I’s blue is dark in tone and, as you say, with a faintly violetish cast to its blue hue.  The AtW80 I’s blue is slightly lighter in tone than the LPP I, with a bright, saturated blue hue.  The OR 1883’s blue is also lighter in tone than the LPP I, but with a subtler, less bright, less saturated blue hue than the AtW80 I.

 

The LPP II’s brown is medium-dark in tone with a slightly reddish hue, almost like fine 50% cacao chocolate.  The AtW80 Days II’s brown is very dark in tone, approaching black, almost overwhelming any judgement of its hue (perhaps @ak47’s “brown-black?”), justifying Montblanc’s colour name of “anthracite.”

 

Apologies for not showing comparison photos for these pens, which, in the hands of a skilled photographer, would exhibit colour differences much more clearly than my mere verbal descriptions can.  The woeful level of my photographic skill is only exceeded by my appalling lack of any sort of camera.

 

Undoubtedly, another member will be able to address my shortcomings with clear images produced under both natural and various artificial light sources.

Owning the LPP pens and the OE1883 I can totally relate to your description. I'm glad the colors are not identical. Still it is strange that they are so close to each other. So will the next AtW80 be burgundy-red also? 😉

@Michael R. The pleasure was all mine.  

 

Since the next leg of the journey is via steamboat to San Francisco, perhaps white for the conveyance and yet another, different but similar blue for the Pacific?  Or maybe colours inspired by a circus costume of Passepartout’s in San Francisco?  Or it could be that Montblanc will consider the next leg of the journey to also include the rail passage from San Francisco to New York?  In which case the colours of the steam train (red, green, black), bison (golden brown), Sioux Nation warrior’s clothing (tan, brown, red, turquoise blue), or American soldier’s uniform circa 1872 (dark blue, teal blue) might feature in the design.  (The mind boggles.)  It is possible that Uncial’s thirst for green might yet be quenched.
