That is the full text of the Heart Sutra. To understand what it means is to be on your way to enlightenment. 😁

The 1984 catalog for the Pilot fountain pen, Pilot Art Craft Urushi Heart Sutra Fountain pen with sutra text, model number FK-5000G-B(kuro-urushi), that I am looking at online has an image of the same Zojoji "増上寺" amulet and Hannya Shinkyou (Heart sutra) "般若心経の経典" that are in the OP's pen case, and it says that they and a converter will be included with the pen.

It also says about Ceremony that Buddhist priests conduct a Buddhist memorial service"入魂の法要 "to put the soul into the pen.

I believe Ron Dutcher's article is based on the Pilot catalog.

Long-tap the image to activate Google Lens to extract the image text from the catalog and turn it into a translated text.

I got the pen! It's in MINT condition. Box is silk threaded vintage. The pen is intact and never inked. It is a beauty. But what I wanted to show you is the amulet from the temple that comes inside . It is paper based, Intact also:

Not sure what it means but I believe it is rare to have one of these in suck good condition and as complete. Paid big buck for it (unexpectedly) but I a happy. It is a special find. :)

The scripture is written vertically, so the fingers(left side)are in the upper position.

The image below is upside down.

😄

Please enjoy the pen.

One more thing: Is your pen the one next to the red urushi pen with the gold lettering in the catalog above?

The catalog states that the box should be "Case F-D, with amulet".

Is there a letter F-D anywhere on the box?

Usually the amulet is not in paper form, but in a brocade cloth container, which is very natural considering that the box is the container for the amulet.

As a matter of fact, I found this catalog some days after your initial discussion.

However, I did not see any scripture in your set, so I did not post it because I thought the pen was not a full set.

I was very happy to see the scriptures, they are very interesting.

Scroll down the catalog to the left and you will find the same pen in silver with two different convex reliefs. The price at the time was less than half of FK-5000G-B(kuro-urushi)pen.

It also does not come with a scripture or amulet.

I am not an expert, I am just someone who looks things up. So I am very sorry if I am wrong, but I think you should do more research to see if this pen is a special version, as you first mentioned.

And isn't your pen the same fountain pen that is in the same catalog as the gold-lettered red Urushi fountain pen and the two raised characters silver fountain pen?

The pen was first relerased about 1976 as I recall. Check date code on nib. Pilot had more made than would sell so they lingered in the catalogue for a few years.
