J Herbin Larmes de Cassis

Larmes de Cassis, translates to tears of blackcurrant, a poetic way of describing, crème de cassis, I assume, a liqueur added to white wine (kir) or champagne (kir royal).

Note that in French, only the first letter of the title is capitalized only (Larmes de cassis).

All quotes are by French authors, noblesse oblige ;)

Ink is on the dry side, wet, watery with low lubrication and is surprisingly water resistant. Left side was held under running water for 10 seconds.

I enjoyed writing with it. I won’t recommend it for thin, absorbent paper, unless you have a light touch and use a finer nib.

This is a Hammermill copy paper: First line is a medium nib. 2nd fude, third reverse fude, to create a fine line, quite a bit of ghost and bleeding....

And finally an art work. I participate in the yearly inktober. Here is a play on Giant and Tear:

There are too many inks too name, but the giant tear is Larmes dec Cassis

giant___tear_by_yazeh1_dfu18ia-fullview.

· Pens used: Lamy Safari (Ef/F/M/B), Conway Steward 330 (Vintage flex oblique), Jinhao 450, (Fude nib)

· What I liked: beautiful colour, good water resistance, and poetic name. Easy cleaning.

· What I did not like: Very long dry times, watery ink.

· Shading: None

· Ghosting: Not on good paper.

· Bleed through: Not on good paper.

· Flow Rate: Wet

· Lubrication: On the dry side.

· Nib Dry-out: None

· Start-up: None

· Saturation: Nice

· Shading Potential: Dismal

· Sheen: No.

· Spread / Feathering / Woolly Line: Not noticed.

· Nib Creep / “Crud”: No.

· Staining (pen): No

· Clogging: No.

· Cleaning: Easy. A midnight soak for Safari and it was clean as a whistle. The vintage pen was a bit more time consuming.

· Water resistance: Quite good. The more absorbent the paper, the better the water resistance.

· Availability: 10 ml / 30 ml bottles/cartridges.

Please don't hesitate to share your experience, writing samples or any other comments. The more the merrier  :)

Thanks for the comprehensive review, @yazeh! :)  The crying kitty on the swatch card makes me sad. :(   But I love the kitty and his friend awaiting the giant teardrop with cat-like indifference.  I'm sure that umbrella is made of titanium and they'll have the last laugh. :D

As for the ink, it's an interesting color, but I'm not sure if it's for me.  The lack of lubrication sounds like Poussiere de Lune.  Perhaps this color range just can't be done without poor lubrication...

Well. I wanted it, to be in character, after all it's lames (tears) of Cassis ;)

Yeah, if I had the time, patience and ease, I would have done many variations of that ;)

It's ok. It's not that bad. It was Ok with Lamy EF and I'm sue it'll be fine with my Elite Ef, but the Kakuna has almost no tipping so, yes it's dry, but not like Urkundentinten ;)

Thanks, @yazeh, for this review.

I filled a pen from a sample bottle at a pen show, also have three or four of the cartridges in a round, little tin case from eons ago.  Even with much of the ink evaporated, when it's diluted a bit, it behaves like your review shows.  Not my usual color but for some reason it tickles me.

Poor kittehs in the rain, lol.

My latest ebook.   And not just for Halloween!

My other pen is a Montblanc.

It makes me giggle too ;)

Nice review @yazeh - I use this ink a lot and agree with all of your conclusions (especially 'very long dry times')

Thanks :) I enjoy, especially for drawing, writing, I prefer a more waterproof ink :)

Another wonderful review. Thank you.

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

Thank you @yazeh for this inktroduction! :)

The colour of Larmes de Cassis is much to my liking - but, I guess, that's the reason I own already more (muted and bright) violet inks than I will be able to use in a lifetime ... 🙄

I have enough empathy with cats to foresee how shocked they will be after the "droplet" hits them. Please, please!, have mercy with these adorable animals and never ever expose them again to such amounts of water! :notworthy1:

One life!

Great review @yazeh - thanks for showcasing the ink so nicely. Love the kitty art!

This type of colour is a difficult one for me. Sometimes I love it, sometimes I hate it… depends on my mood, the position of the stars, that kitty on the roadside… Right now, I think this ink looks amazing, but tomorrow I might feel totally different. So not sure if this ink is for me, but it certainly is interesting.

I prefer my inks to have more lubrication, saturation and grey, so not for me.

Thankyou for the review. And the cute kitty pic.

Will work for pens...

I completely get you. I've the same problem with certain colours, I love them in abstract way, but certain hues or shades just put me off :)

Great review!

Beautiful handwriting, wonderful quotes, great selection of different nibs!

Une larme = a nice way to say 1 drop in French, which is the ratio of cassis to white wine in Kir or champaign in Kir Royal in their respective glasses.

Is it fair for an intelligent and family oriented mammal to be separated from his/her family and spend his/her life starved in a concrete jail?

Merci pour la précision  I took it literally ;)
