Colourful Pigment Inks

Karmachanic

Recommended Posts

I see blue, blue-black and black pigment inks mentioned here, but other colours not so much.  So I went hunting and here's what I found:

Birmingham Pens, which, unfortunately, do not ship internationally

kakimori ink

Kala Ink

Mitasanshodo Sumi inks  Made by KURETAKI for fountain pen use

Rohrer & Klinger sketchINK

Sailor Storia

If you know of others, please add.

Add lightness and simplicate.

Tramol pigment inks come in fourteen different colours (that I know of; soon I'll have ‘collected’ thirteen out of them).

PenBBS offers a substantial number of different colours of pigment inks.

In addition to blue pigment ink, Platinum also offers (pinkish) red and (pale) brown pigment inks in the same product line.

I endeavour to be frank and truthful in what I write, show or otherwise present, when I relate my first-hand experiences that are not independently verifiable; and link to third-party content where I can, when I make a claim or refute a statement of fact in a thread. If there is something you can verify for yourself, I entreat you to do so, and judge for yourself what is right, correct, and valid. I may be wrong, and my position or say-so is no more authoritative and carries no more weight than anyone else's here.

Please let us know how you like them. I'm very tempted to buy a few - the only thing stopping me is guilt about spending more money when I already have many inks I haven't even tried yet ...

When I get around to them. I bought eighteen new Platinum Preppy pens to dedicate to R&K sketchINKs (I got all ten colours), and Platinum and Sailor pigment inks I have here, well over a year ago… and I have yet to open a single bottle of sketchINK! Anyway, now I have to rethink what goes into those Preppy pens. I also have a dozen Monami Penna pens that are similarly fitted with spring-loaded inner caps, but as each Penna feed has a wick, I don't think it's a good idea to put ink containing insoluble colourants in those pens.

In the meantime, however, you can probably ask AmandaW. I think she has tried ten of the Tramol pigment inks, and used some for extended journalling sessions.

Thank you for the contributions.  Some links are retailers rather than producers because that is where I could find the inks.

The more interesting colours, in my view, are coming from Asia (kakamori, Kala and Mitanshodo).

Note that kakamori offers custom inks

Add lightness and simplicate.

I would be remiss if I didn't mention my daily use ink, Mrs. Stewart's Concentrated Liquid Bluing, which is a Prussian Blue (ferric ferrocyanide) pigmented ink.

Here it is, in a vintage Monblanc bottle:

Thank you.

I searched and found Yurishi at Vanness to discover its a pigment/dye blend.  Seiheki shows as dye based in my searches.  Choosing Keeping has a five colour range. They have given them English names, which is not helpful as I can't confirm they are in fact pigment based.

I'll do more research before I list them.

I recently got samples of Octopus Write & Draw Lion Violet and Crane Green. Both quite pretty but just writing a few words with the former stained my glas dip pen so thoroughly that it took mechanical effort and multiple applications of R&K cleaner to clean. The latter seemed a bit more tame but nowhere as docile as, for example, the R&K sketchINKs (I've used Lilly, Carmen and Emma so far).

I'd not use them with anything that's harder to clean than a glas dip pen.

PS: Oh and hello, this seems to be my first post here!
