A bit of fun... 'You have 30 seconds to decide. You can only ever have one fountain pen. Which is it to be?'

I have several very fine writing pens costing 3-5 times the price, but...

It is LAMY 2000 for the win!

I had a Medium that was a 'lovely writer' but it was a little too broad and wrote a little too wet for my small handwriting. I reluctantly returned it to Lamy (Germany) and asked them to exchange the nib (F.O.C) for a Fine and waited on tenderhooks. I'm happy to report the Fine is also 'a lovely' writer but more suitable to my 'reticent' handwriting 🙂 PS I've seen writing examples of an L2K with a Bold nib and a 'wet' ink. What a combination that would be if you had the handwriting to carry it off. 😍

Well said.  I've enjoyed reading all the posts and look how many people have responded!  Obviously they are enjoying it too.  As any school teacher can tell you "every class has that one!"

In fairness, I have to confess that one year I was 'that one'.

Okay, well yes, okay, two years.

This has been one of my favorite threads since I joined.  Thank you 51ISH for starting it.  I’ve learned a great deal from this thread about what great pens are out there.  I’m now intrigued by the dual-nibbed PenBBS and completely fascinated with the Conid Minimalistic!

Participating with my own humble collection of pens, I’d be torn between my pocket pens (Gravitas titanium and Schon Pocket 6, both with Franklin Christoph nibs) and two Lamys (my 2000 and a gold-nibbed Studio).  Ultimately, I’m sure I’d join those who would grab the Lamy 2000 with the fine nib.  It’s the first pen I bought when I decided to treat myself to a fountain pen about a year ago and it’s the pen I keep going back to after using others.  I did a whole bunch of research here and around the internet before making my first purchase and decided to start with the 2000.  As an industrial designer, I love its design and history.  I also love the material, weight and balance when posted.  Mine has written so beautifully since I took it out of the box that I soon followed with an EF for sketching (also fantastic).  In this exercise, I’d grab the fine because, in a pinch, I’ve found I can always flip it over for an extra fine sketch line.

I will miss my “adult fidget spinner” pocket pens!

Thank you for your kind words!  I'm glad the threat was helpful and interesting.

Thanks for sharing your favourite pens with us and contributing to the thread.

I too am intrigued by the dual nibbed PenBBS.  I'd happily take my Lamy 2000 Fine as my 'only pen'.  Thanks again for playing along.

I apologise if I offended you in any way that was not my intention.  As it clearly states in the title it was meant as 'A bit of fun' and I think I was pretty clear in my title. If you don't want to join in then that's fine.  It was a pretty 'quiet night' on the site, so I just wondered if anyone wanted to 'Play'.... As it turns out I had a problem keeping up with everyones responses! 👍  I have been a member since 2009 and back then lots of members were posting all sorts of similar posts..... I miss them...

Don't apologize 51ish; you've done nothing wrong. These are the times when you just have to "roll with the punches"; I know it's hard to do at times. But taking the time and effort to complain about a benign post is even sillier than you are being accused of being.

Just say Good Night and God bless. :D You have to give everyone a little latitude because you never know what stresses they may be trying to work through, but at the same time, don't let it burn out your own nerves in the process.

- Sean :)

ETA: I can see the issue has resolved itself; my fault for responding immediately. However, I'll leave my post up just in case you can draw a scintilla of help or support from it. My mistake.

Ugh, MB 149 Curved nib, currently in heavy rotation.

The ugh comes from the price/value ratio, theft magnetism/replacement cost but despite some initial quibbles; it has all the marks of a long now FP: balance/heft for long sessions, line variability, does not dry out, excellent writing experience.

My lose-everything runner-up is the Pilot Varsity, now that I know how to easily refill them.

I do really love F nibs, too... But if there is only one pen I have to pick up then it is M nib :)

Definitely my Parker 51 (burgundy barrel, gold filled cap). It has an exceptional and very consistent medium/broad nib.

It took me 5 seconds to decide!
