Any ideas on this Cross ballpoint?

I wonder if anyone can help?

 

This ballpoint looks very much like a Cross Click pen but it operates in the conventional manner by twisting the cap.  Note also that there are two bands at the top of the cap [below the rubber button] - all the Cross Clicks I have seen don't have this.

I LIKE these pens, especially because of my creaky fingers on my phone playing chess.  I have one that seems to twist ok, but the point disappears if you try to write with it.  Cross now charges $30 to get warranty work,  Any fixes for this problem?

 

The only other problem with these is I lose them!

I had one that wouldn't twist so tried a minute drop of oil to fix it (might not have been my best idea). It then developed the problem you describe where the refil retracts if you press when writing.

 

It got better when I repeatedly wiped the insides with tissue to try to dry it out; better now, but not perfect.
