So pretty! I like how the resin mimics an old celluloid pattern.

Thank you for that description. I wasn’t sure what the various parallel lines were about. How cool, as I would guess the makers of the pen have seen the old celluloid.

Got this one at the Leonardo table at the start of the San Francisco One Show this year.  My first blue fountain pen.  I went in hoping to find a nice blue or purple resin pen with rose gold or ruthenium trim.  Leonardo was the first table I hit and this pen jumped out for me.  It is a Momento Magico with (I think) Blue Hawaii resin on the cap, blind cap and section and a solid blue resin that is frosted except one glossy stripe up the middle, which Salvatore carefully aligned the nib to.  He said this was a prototype of a pen they plan to release later this year.  Looking forward to the other color schemes they produce.  Kind of amazed me that I found my perfect pen within the first 30 mins of the show.  Almost caved on a Pelikan M805 Blue Dunes reissue later but decided I would prefer sleeping inside the house when I got home!

Somehow all but one of my Cross pens are blue (the Apogee shows more blue in person than in this photo, and the Peerless is far more gaudy than you see here). The Phileas, on the other hand, doesn't look nearly this bright blue.

Beautiful pens!

Is the Lamy Scala section slimmer than the Waterman Phileas? How would you compare the un-posted weight of the Scala's to the Phileas?

I got a blue pen delivered today. It is the Conklin Heritage Word Gauge with 1.1mm stub nib. It looks like blue sky and clouds to me. The ink is Levenger Blue Bahama.

@Surlyprof -- Well, clearly, you needed to have provide a present to your significant other....

I always try to make a point of telling "Mr. Cute and Fuzzy" about pens I'm looking at BEFORE I buy them (especially the, um, more expensive ones).   He kinda freaked out a bit at the price of my first Pelikan (a 1990s era M400 Brown Tortoise) which was bought for a special occasion -- until I pointed out that a NEW M400 would cost a LOT more; and that they no longer made that color.  Then, what did Pelikan do?  Make a liar out of me a few years later and re-released that color.   :headsmack:  Of course, the one time in my life I had a MAJOR shopping budget, I got the M405 Stresemann and an M405 Blue Black -- and saved money by getting them from Rolf Thiel's eBay store (he didn't have to charge me VAT, I didn't have to pay the US distributor markup, and back then eBay didn't collect sales taxes).  Of course, an hour later, I got the "did you know..." phone call from PayPal and -- after assuring them that it WAS a legit transaction -- got off the phone, looked at my husband and said, "OMG -- I really DID spend THAT MUCH MONEY on *only* TWO pens....!" :o

Now, if he could JUST find the blue Safari he wanted me to get him a couple of years ago (which appears to be lost in his home office someplace), so I could have my blue Snorkel with the EF nib back....

The trick is to get them interested in hobbies that are more expensive than yours. If they’re dropping a few grand on something, they won’t get miffed by most pen prices.

Here they are side-by-side. I would say yes, the Scala section is the slimmer of the two. The metal construction of the Scala makes it appreciably heftier than the plastic Phileas.

She knew about and encouraged the Leonardo but there was no prior clearance discussed for a second expensive pen.  I guess she figures that now I will no longer be interested in pen stores next time we’re in Italy (She’s a very smart woman and knows otherwise).

As for presents… there’s a to do list that will require a great deal of my time this Fall.

Oh, she has hobbies.  Have you ever priced custom built corten steel garden beds?!?  Let the retaliatory spending begin!

Not garden beds exactly, but bamboo pots.
