Have you looked at Diamine Cobalt Jazz? It’s really pretty, and my Lamy pens, even the EF nibs, have no issues with their shimmer.  If shimmer is not your thing, their Majestic Blue is lovely; Edelstein Sapphire is as well. Also Private Reserve Electric Supershow Blue. Can you tell it’s my favorite color‽

I don't have any shimmer inks but I do have:

  • Diamine Majestic Blue (heavy sheen) but darker than the pen
  • Private Reserve DC Supershow Blue (doesn't say electric) leans a little toward turquoise
  • Monteverde Horizon blue, also not the right color
  • Edelstein Sapphire is the closest but it's on the dry side
  • Ajisai is nice and wet but it leans toward red, relative to Ed. Sapphire
  • Lake PLacid Blue was nice but I forgot what the problem was... hahaha

LOL  fun problems, 😁

It’s a fun ink journey!  The difference between the Electric and regular is shown on their chart, easier to show you than describe it. I can add a swatch of mine when I get back from gardening.

@USG, I was thinking that as I looked after posting! Great minds and all that….

Oh, and for the dry ink, if you have a syringe,  if you dip it in dish soap or white lightning and then dip it in the converter, that tiny bit of lubricant should be enough to make the ink just wet enough.

Vanness Pens sells a product called Vanness White Lightning that helps dry inks. It’s takes very little of it. Say a drop to 10ml.  I have a bottle, but have not used it yet. I do have a target ink to try it with.

I've experimented that way over the years using the tip of a toothpick and dish detergent, but I've found that there's too much trial and error, with no consistency between fills.  The line between too little surfactant and too much surfactant is very close and more than once I found my self adding more ink to try to balance out a mixture that had inadvertently become too wet.

What I'd really like to do is figure out how to make a wet ink dryer.

Hi MIsfit

I've heard of White Lightning but never used it.  One drop to 10ml sounds very reproducible.  I'd be interested in knowing what your target ink is, the technique you're going to use and if you're going to use a cartridge or piston filler. 🙂

The Target ink is J Herbin Ambre de Birmanie. I’d use a syringe to get the 10ml. Then use the eyedropper cap from the White Lightning to add the drop of it to the 10ml. I’ll need a bottle for the 10ml.

Interesting that you find that ink dry. I’ve only used it once, in a Pelikan, and it worked beautifully- so that makes sense.  Every time I have tried to buy the white lightning, it’s sold out, so I have yet to try it.

Nice picture! I don’t know a ton about No Nonsense pens, other than there are a ton of levels and finishes and variations from generation to generation. Do you know which one is yours?

Nice pen too, sorry- watching Saturday morning footy and got distracted.

I honestly have no idea! 🤣

This is how the seller described it:

Vintage Sheaffer No Nonsense Premium Blue Marble Fountain Pen,GT, F Nib *Nr MINT

This is the premium version of the No Nonsense in a blue marble finish with a 23K gold plated stainless steel nib and trim. Only produced in limited volumes so quite rare!!

I bought it for the colour!  I bought a No Nonsense 'Air Europe' promotional pen with a M nib at the same time from a different seller. Too  much G&T probably 🤣

I've had a black one with a fine Italic nib for years but never used it as I didn't know I had a cartridge and a converter that would fit!! (I found them both underneath the display 'tray' in a pen set I bought years ago.  I'm going to post a new thread to try and find out what model the pen set is later.

Pretttyyyy!  It almost looks like one of the translucent  versions I have, and yes, I forgot their designation.

Those were running less than ten dollars when new.

My latest ebook.   And not just for Halloween!

My other pen is a Montblanc.

Sheaffer No Nonsense pens work well with Standard International short size accessories. I have 3, and they have all done well with the Kaweco sport mini converter and international short cartridges. I recently did go and buy some Sheaffer Slovenia cartridges so I can up my ink capacity, but i actually really dislike the ink, so I’ll probably dump them and refill them with a syringe. 😂  I have also heard that Sheafer No Nonsense pens are good eyedropper candidates, but haven’t had a good reason to try it myself.

@sailor kenshin You can still get them for < $10 if you know where to look. A couple antique shops I have popped into in the past have them tucked away in a corner with stickers in the $5-7 range. Often times they even have the calligraphy sets with 3 italic nibs for <$10 (😯)

I got my set of 3 pens, 3 nibs, all original cartridges present for $12 last year.

Yes, that's the one

I takes almost 7 x (360') turns to screw the barrel on to the section 🙂

I have one with a padded section that I found at the grocery store. It leaks from that padded section and drives me nuts. I should see if a regular No Nonsense section would fit. I like the nib, but I would rather pick up the Reaktor than that one, and that says a lot. It’s pretty, though.

Thanks for the info RE.  SIC's  I didn't know that or my No Nonsense F Italic could have been used years ago!
