Great deal on ebay for Visconti Voyager 30 ebonite limited edition

This is a limited edition pen for $322,. It has a 14K medium nib. There are supposed to be only 300 of them made.  In my opinion, it is a great pen. It has a power filler.   I received it quickly.  The pen is exactly what you see in the picture.

I got one of these pens and it is exactly the same pen as a pen that I paid nearly $1000  last year. It had an 18k nib and a Visconti traveling inkwell.  This is the link to the pen that I bought last year. This will give you additional info.

The Ebay seller is Jewelry by David in Los Angeles.  The pen is available directly from his website for $279.

https://jewelrybydavid.com/product/visconti-kp33-02-rb-voyager-rollerball-pen-in-alpha-centauri/

And yes, it is odd that the above mentions a rollerball, but when you go to the page, it is the Voyager 30 fountain pen.

Thanks for the tip. I broke and bought one. It arrived today. Wonderful pen.

I am amazed they haven't sold out yet.

I am tempted to get another one and send it to Nibmeister for added flex. The Visconti nib, while smooth and pretty, is quite stiff.

And I want to again thank James3paris.  I have been using mine for a few days, and I am very happy with it, though one minor complaint.  As someone who loves ebonite pens and has lots (and lots) of them, I am puzzled as to why Visconti used one of the three most common ebonites around, black/red (the others being black/green and black/brown).  With a run of only 300, surely they could have sprung for what Ranga calls premium ebonite, and for which they charge an additional $20.  But that is a minor overall nit.

I note that the Seller still has 12 of these in stock.

No problem.  The pen is one of my go-to pens.  I own 3 in EF, M, and B.   I am still shocked at the $279 price.

And I am happy to have discovered a new Seller, though he does not carry many fountain pens, dealing with him was, as you said, very pleasant.  He was extremely professional, answered my questions promptly and emailed me every step of the way.  And the pen arrived a couple of days after I ordered it.

So this one has 14K nib instead of 18K nib and does not come with the inkwell?

What is the difference between the 14K and 18K nibs?

Thanks for the heads up guys, I ordered one from David and it promptly arrived only a few days after I ordered it.  Beautiful pen with the same filling system as my Pilot 823.  The ink window is large, and the pen feels great in hand.  The nib is a nice new design and 14K.  Mine did not come with a traveling inkwell, but I already have one of these from Visconti which I purchased over a decade ago.  Incredible deal for $279! Much better deal than any I saw at the Baltimore pen show last week.

I ordered one and I'm excited but I have to agree regarding the plain ebonite.

These are the pen that I own.  Someone above mentioned the differences in the nibs.  So, here they are.  In no order, there is a 14k medium and broad, one 18k F, and one 23Pd EF.

Impressive group of Voyagers, and the more I use mine the more it is growing on me, and with use the nib  is loosening up.   Not flex or even particularly springy, but nicely responsive with some slight give.  Is there a detectable difference in the nibs, given their different materials?

I just placed an order for one. This will be my second Visconti. I have a Homosapians in EF, maybe the M on this nib would be to wide, but always willing to learn how to write larger.

I got my pen yesterday. Very fast shipping.

However, mine has a small imperfection in the grip.

More of a problem, is the nib. It is clicking. Same problem, it also misses a vertical downstroke once in a while.

This makes a very unpleasant creaking, clicking feel when writing.

ChatGPT was very nice to give a good answer instead of following links from here to dead pages. Looks like I'll have to work on the nib.

In a fountain pen, what causes nib to make a clicking sound?
The clicking sound in a fountain pen's nib is usually caused by the tines of the nib being misaligned or touching each other too tightly. When the nib is pressed down on paper, the tines are supposed to spread apart slightly to allow ink to flow through, creating a smooth line. However, if the tines are misaligned or touching each other too tightly, they can create a clicking or scraping sound as they rub against each other when pressure is applied to the nib.

To fix this issue, you can try gently realigning the tines of the nib with your fingers or using a loupe to inspect and adjust the tines more precisely. It's important to be gentle and take your time to avoid damaging the nib. If you're not comfortable making adjustments yourself, you can also take your pen to a professional for repair or adjustment.

How do I fix clicking nib in a Visconti fountain pen?

If you are experiencing a clicking nib in your Visconti fountain pen, there are a few steps you can take to try to fix the issue.

  1. Check the alignment of the nib: Hold the pen up to a light source and examine the nib closely. Look for any signs of misalignment or tightness between the tines. If the tines are misaligned, you can try gently pressing one tine down and the other up until they are aligned. Be careful not to use too much force, as this can damage the nib.

  2. Adjust the nib slit: If the tines are aligned but still clicking, you may need to adjust the nib slit. Use a brass shim or a piece of thin plastic to gently pry the tines apart. Be careful not to use too much force, as this can cause the tines to spread too far apart.

  3. Use a magnifying glass or loupe: Sometimes, the clicking sound can be caused by small imperfections or misalignments that are difficult to see with the naked eye. Using a magnifying glass or loupe can help you identify and fix these issues more precisely.

  4. Send the pen to a professional: If you're not comfortable making adjustments yourself, you can send the pen to a professional for repair. Visconti offers a repair service for their pens, and there are many third-party repair services available as well.

It's important to be patient and careful when trying to fix a clicking nib, as it's easy to cause further damage if you're not careful. With a little bit of effort, however, you should be able to get your Visconti fountain pen writing smoothly and quietly again.
