I’ve seen that too. And I also have wrecked lovely vintage pens, including seriatim, @LoveBigPensAndCannotLie. It still hurts. I saved a melted marble Vacumatic barrel that was in absolutely beautiful condition—the clear celluloid had the minty green tinge. My mind drifted for a few seconds too long while heating the section. I keep it as a reminder of how important it is to remain focused on what I’m doing. It’s a lesson I wish I had learned on a junker, but there’s nothing to do except keep moving forward—after an appropriate period of mourning, of course. A sadder and a wiser man I rose the morrow morn.
