Looking for an ink

Help!  I'm looking for an ink.

Not sure if this is the 'right place', but giving it a shot. Could have added Green to the title, but who knows - others might want/need similar help with other hues so, to keep it contained, took that part out. So here we go!

This ink was used to scribble a note of thanks for buying a pen from that other 'other' place, and I like the ink immensely. Asked the sender, he didn't remember.

So, this ink is a deep 'dusty' olive-like green, with nice golden shimmer. I thought it unusual that, where the pen stopped (e.g. at the end of strokes that form letters) the gold 'pooled' and, most remarkably, sort of bled itself outwards & mostly downwards from those points. Mini-blots.

After the writer's negative response, I researched a good bit, & the most alike web sampling I saw was Akkerman's Hofkwartier Groen, except that one is rather bright, compared to the dusty olive of my sample. I'd photograph it & show, but not confident the reproduction would be accurate enough, plus it contains personal info that's not sharable so....only if push comes to shove.

So, ring any bells? Jump in!

Have you already checked the usual places, like Goulet Pens, Vanness, and Jet Pens, where you can filter by green ink with shimmer?  There aren't that many greens with gold shimmer:

  • Ferris Wheel Press Sunlit Jade
  • Diamine Golden Oasis (not olivey)
  • Diamine Golden Ivy (probably not)
  • Colorverse Brane Glistening - most olive-like to my eyes, but not much shimmer
  • Vinta Gold Dust Piloncitos 1521
  • Ancient Charm Ode to Those in Service in Yan
  • Ancient Charm Song of the Southern Country (so much shimmer in the image I can hardly see the ink)

Anywho, happy hunting! :D

R&K Altgoldgrun. Is another odd greenish ink that popped into my mind when you described the missing ink.

Even if not, it is one of those inks one just.....must have, even if not used a lot.

So, was it actually a shimmer ink? Or was it  sheeny?

Wow, guys!   I appreciate all the suggestions! Honestly didn't think there'd be that many of them. LOL

I've had a load of medical 'stuff' going on the last couple of days, but after getting settled back in at home I'll be checking them out later as time allows. Right now, I'm even thinking of seeing if I can work up a decently accurate rendition & post up a photo of the writing. Two potential problems there....

• 1- I tried posting up a photo in a comment this weekend, & instead of displaying the pic, it (the forum software[?]) consistently (and maddeningly[!!] ) insisted on posting it as a link that was non-existent, ie a blank screen with error message.

• 1b- This happened almost immediately after 'The Forum' informed me off-board that it had locked down my account because someone had attempted 6 TIMES to log in and/or access my profile. 3 of those were me; why it stated '6' I have no idea.

• 1c- The icing on the cake: at the time it was "locked down", I had my account open on another device (my tablet) - the 3 'attempts' I made were from my phone, me trying to verify something in my account for accuracy before posting via the tablet.

& •2-[You knew there was a 2, right? lol] I'm not so sure, thus hesitant about the efficacy of posting a photo of an ink color for ID. You know, the old 'lighting/screen/cam/source' usuals. And if you ever need proof of that, just do a Goog on a well-known ink hue, click on 'Images' & scroll down. There's so much difference it's insane!  So what are the odds you're gonna 'hit it', ya know??

Bonus •2b- A bit hard to define, but when you've got a LOAD of the Google 'Images' thumbnails loading, some take a bit longer so, beforehand the display temporarily shows a blank 'patch' where the image will show. This happened while I was researching the greens. One of the patches was practically the PRECISE hue of the mystery dusty olive I'm seeking!

I tried for a quick screen-cap. Since its my thread, I hopefully won't intrude on anyone's thoughts but, let me try posting it here, plus allowing myself to test the waters of #1 above.

Hey, it worked! [But now my tabletware won't let me marque the screen-grab per usual.]

Okay, it's the 'Dusty Olive' one in the 3rd column, straddling the horizontal center-line.

Amberlea, it was def shimmery. You could easily see the gold particles sprinkled here & about.

If I can work up the hoped-for imagery, you'll see.

Was this a recent purchase?

Hi Julie. Haven't purchased the ink. WANT to. [heh]

'The' purchase, yes was recent --  but it was 2 pens [Benu & Visconti], & the ink in question was used by the seller on a handwritten 'Thanks' note he sent with the pens.

Yeah, sorry, that was what I meant, leaving out the part with the pens that came with the letter where you saw that ink in question. We could have ruled out Olive Swirl had the letter been written before last autumn, as the Diamine Inkvent Calendar hit stores in September or October 2022.

The odd, R&K Altgoldgruen is not a shimmer or glitter.

I got to write more (empty some pens), in I do have some glitter inks*, the best one a Herbin gray or black with some color glitter. I don't know any more if silver or gold, in it's been ages since I used it.

*The rest 4-5 are Diamine shading inks with glitter.....had to be shading inks first, in I like shading.

Good point, Detective! LOL

I got so carried away with last year's inkvent, I strongly avoided interest in this year's. I don't need 13 more inks I won't use a DROP of for 12+ months!

You got me curious, tho, so I went ahead & sought out several pix of that Olive Swirl to see, & don't think that's it.

Huh, narrowing down then ... Not as satisfying as finding the answer right away, but still one step closer to your dream ink.

Have you had a look at Mountain of Ink's page of greens yet? --> mountainofink.com/blog/green-ink

I use to think my 19-soon to be 20 greenish inks were a lot....but Julie your link showed me otherwise with that Mountain link.

Of course three of them are  similar, vibrant green-green inks. R&K Verdura a nose better than MB Irish and a head ahead of the discontinued 4001 Brilliant Green. (Replaced by a dull dark green that don't even shade.:gaah:But folks that never heard of Diamine's dark greens wanted Pelikan to make a Diamine Forest, Sherwood or what ever Green....after years of complaints....they did.)

50ml of Verdura costs. E8.50 so is the best deal.

I do admit to being surprised how many folks did not like a lively green-green ink.

I was chasing purples. I had never given a thought to buying a green ink, until a half bottle of 4001 Brilliant Green was being sold for E-1.00 instead of near E5. It Shaded!!!!

In that year, I bought 14 greenish inks. Have 19 now and the 20'th a gray/green in is in the mail.

I never really got back to chasing purples/violets....though one of them is also in the mail.

Perhaps Vint Inks piloncitos? It is a nice muted green with gold shimmer. Here you can see pictures what it can look like. I really like it and think it is a sort of small sister in glitter to Alt Goldgrün,

Oh, sorry, I've just noticed that is has been mentioned already.

You are right, looks nice...but I have 5 bottles of glitter I got to empty.............along with the other 95 bottles.

Spend years saying I got enough ink.............buy only an Edelstein a year...every other year....then go bananas...with 9 inks with in a couple months and three more middle of last year.

Colorwise, that AltGoldgrun (as seen in the Goulet swatch) is the leading candidate, Bobo.

I've been most of the afternoon trying to capture that deep olive hue from the writing itself. Best I've come up with, it looks black. My phone cam just won't catch it, but I have a digital Nikon I'm going to be trying tomorrow. Also, to use some natural sunny light; take it outside & try that.
