Odd nib on my 51, trying to figure out if it’s worn out or an architect/Arabic type nib?

I have recently inked and started using my other 51. It’s an interesting nib, hard to write cursive with, but doable, I have to turn it so it faces left while using to write cursive. If I print it works with the nib facing forward. The vertical strokes are thicker than the horizontal. I figure it’s probably someone’s old daily writer but wanted to get other people to chime in on it because it might be worth changing it out if it’s just worn out. I’m including pictures of how it writes, how I have to hold it to write in cursive (I hold pens weird- my joints are wildly unstable), and the nib itself in the best light I can get and under 10x magnification.

Cumprimentos.

Penguin collector, photos of the parsare are difficult to obtain without the proper resources, here are some images of a 51 paro made in England, dated 1950, classified as Arabic. Unfortunately it is not possible to attach an essay test at this time for you to compare, but it writes narrow vertical lines and wide horizontal lines. As soon as possible, I'll provide a written sample for comparison. Greetings.

Doesn’t appear to be Architect, but not too off kilter either. Is it scratchy? Definitely doesn’t appear worn out to me. May just need some adjustment and cleaning.

@CarguyIt’s not scratchy at a precise angle, but it is otherwise. I’m rather visually impaired, so it’s hard for me to get a good look at it but I think I will see if I can have someone at my pen club take a look when we next meet in person.  I can take more pictures if it will help .  If there’s an angle you need to see, let me know.

@SwitalaEm alguns papéis, os traços laterais são grossos e os traços descendentes são finos. Obrigado pelas fotos, são úteis.

In some papers, the side strokes are thick and the descending strokes are thin. Thanks for the pictures, they're useful.

It’s a little hard to tell from the pictures, but it looks like a normal nib to me. Maybe a precious owner rotated when writing and went a little crazy with emery paper, etc. If so, assuming there’s enough tipping left, you or someone else should be able to correct that.

I enlarged the close-up photo to take a closer look, but it's pretty grainy. It looks to me like the nib has an edge where no edge should be, but it's hard to be sure. I'm sure taking it to your pen club is the best idea. Good luck. Maybe one of them would be willing and able to tune and smooth it for you.

You know, I found it in a clearance bin at a local art supply- I wouldn’t be surprised if it was experimented on. I took a picture of it under 30x magnification. Please excuse the ink stained paper towel.

Oh good. There’s a pen show happening here in the summer, and I think a few nibmeisters are coming, so hopefully I can get it looked at there if not before. I was trying to get better pictures, but I just got my new phone and haven’t been able to do a walkthrough on how the amazing new camera works.

This was about a year ago. I found this one (the problem child), and  a rolled gold cap, both green, together for $8. The same bin yielded a couple of entry level Sailors. Support your local little art supply stores, you never know what you can find!

True!  Years ago I found a biiig bottle of Pelikan Blue Black for $5.  That was cheap even then.  And some of those Sheaffer ink bottles with the metal cap and the well.

My latest ebook.   And not just for Halloween!

My other pen is a Montblanc.

It happens once in a while, but not often.

This was years ago...  We went into an antique shop west of Syracuse.  In a display case was a bag of advertising pencils, and in with the pencils was a gray vac 51 with a rolled gold cap.  The guy unlocked the case, handed me the bag and I looked at the pencils and the pen.  Put the pen back in the bag and handed it to the guy and said, "I'll take it," and followed him to the register.

He started to ring it up and physically jolted as he looked at the price.  He looked at me, I looked at him and said, "It was in the bag."  He said, "You're right, it was in the bag," and proceeded to ring it up.

Bag of ad pencils and a pristine 51 with the rolled gold cap.  $2

@Ron Z, that’s even better than the 51 Special I found at a barn sale in Vermont for $2. I love sumgai 51s!

Envy, envy, envy. The only fountain pen I ever found at an antique store was a WASP (WA Sheaffer Pen Company) at a place outside St Louis. It had a cap, a barrel, and nothing else. No nib, section, filling system. I think they wanted $50, but were willing to sell it for $25, suggesting I might repair it.
