Database Upgrade

Dearest Members and Visitors of the Fountain Pen Nuthouse,

Database upgrade January 8, 21:30 EST / January 9, 02:30 GMT.

As part of the Server Migration it appears a database upgrade is required. In order to do so, we will need to create a full backup of the site, or we won't we able to do a restore and go back to the old database version if something goes wrong. In order to do all this, we will need some preparation time, about half an hour, and execute the backup, which will start at 22:00 EST / 03:00 UTC/GMT.

Thereafter, some tests will have to be carried out to make sure all still works as expected. If so, the site will back to normal immediately thereafter. If we do encounter problems, we will go back to the situation before. That will take longer to do however, probably at least 6 hours, as a restore will take signigicantly longer to do.

As usual, as far is possible and/or necessary, we will keep you all informed via a special page, or via the message on the login page. The amount of time required for this upgrade is not clear yet, so we will just have to wait and see. Sorry about that..

Warm regards,

on behalf of The FPN Moderator and Admin Team,

Wim

Hi all,

The database upgrade has been successful, so the Server Migration can now continue as planned.

Warm regards, Wim

I say we copy the entire sight by hand on to scrolls that we burry in the desert as a back up.

😂😂🤣

In that case, I'd suggest you take the lead. Do note that these scrolls will have to be sealed in clay pots, for longevity ....

Warm regards, Wim ;)

@Black Spot, if you decide to take up this project, I am willing to act as an unpaid consultant. Although I know nothing about archiving scrolls in clay pots, I do have very good Google skills.

Why am I now thinking of the episode of ST:DS9, where Commander Sisko has one of his visions sent to them by the "wormhole aliens"....?

Sorry, but we had to bring the site offline for a very short period of time, to try and fix a relatively small problem.

It is relatively small now, but may have consequences for future upgrades, so it was best to try and fix it asap.

Unfortunately, that did not work, so we are looking now at other options.
