Uncommon jotter/classic - identification?

I have a number of Meru made all metal jotter/classic ballpoint pens.

One of these has a ring around the top of the barrel with "Parker France AE" stamped on it. I have only seen a couple of similar pens in the last 20 years.

The more conventional one has no separate ring around the top of the barrel..

Both of these pens are French made (Meru) the one with the odd cap ring is 1982, the other 1986.

Does anyone know anything about this slightly unusual pen?

The separate ring on the top is also seen on some, although not all, Classic ballpoints from the Laque series. I am not sure whether that means something for instance to period (or batches) of production.

I have seen the button band Classics quite a few times (and owned one or two).
These pens are only seen with the early laque colours and the early metal patterns.
The button band pens were the first version of the Parker Classic to be made in Meru, France.

Thanks for the information Baz. I may have another 1 or 2 somewhere but don't have time to dig through my archives.

I still think the metal finishes coming out of Meru are some of the best I have ever seen.
