Switching Lamy Clone Nib for a Gold Lamy Nib

You mean the Imporium nib flakes?

Sorry to hear that, I only had that problem on Platinum preppy.

The usual tape method didn't work?

It brought the feed out with it, and when I looked at it, the shoulders of the nib are wrapped the feed and crimped into place. I like the way the rainbow nib writes and don’t want to mangle it, so I will try again when the new feed gets here. Worst thing that can happen is I end up with a Lamy to match my new nib.

Mmm, that's unfortunate. Could you share where you bought the feeds separately?

Ali Express.  I measured mine to confirm the size. There’s a few sellers but I went with the one in the link because it had precise measurements.

As far as I can remember reading, all the black coated nibs flake (Lamy or not)  sooner or later....so were for me, so much for Plan A. And leave off my wish list.

In reference to P. T. Barnum; to advise for free is foolish, ........busybodies are ill liked by both factions.

Ransom Bucket cost me many of my pictures taken by a poor camera that was finally tossed. Luckily, the Chicken Scratch pictures also vanished.

So I switched them out, but now I am having ink choice paralysis.  Suggestions are welcome

You seem to have gotten an aesthetically pleasing nib (unlike the one I received), nice!

I can't see what size you got, but maybe Diamine Golden Sands or Brandy Dazzle would be a match for that golden clip?

Or are you looking for something a little more serious? Lamy black is a very underrated nice black ink, and works well on all kinds of papers. Boring, I know.

I have a few different black inks, and while  I don’t have Golden Sands (wow, that’s pretty), I have a few gold inks as well. I actually don’t have a pen inked with black at the moment, so am leaning that way. It’s an EF nib, so I think it would have to be a non shimmering ink unless I hear otherwise. I have no Lamy experience prior to this, so please feel free to share your thoughts and experiences.

Unless we're talking about an (Ultra or Extra) extra fine-writing pen designed to write so, with no provision for simple nib swapping, the feed that would serve an F or M nib equally well should not be of particular concern with regard to using shimmer inks. As for the nib itself, I don't think it automatically follows that (Lamy, but also other brands of) EF nibs are tuned for drier ink flow by having a sufficiently narrower tine gap, such that shimmer particles could be physically trapped and build up into a cluster as crud does.

Using a shimmer ink such as Jacques Herbin Shogun by Kenzo Takada or Colorverse Project Ink no.1 Shiny Black should be quite OK; but stay away from unproven and rarely reviewed Chinese shimmer inks you may see lots of on AliExpress.

I endeavour to be frank and truthful in what I write, show or otherwise present, when I relate my first-hand experiences that are not independently verifiable; and link to third-party content where I can, when I make a claim or refute a statement of fact in a thread. If there is something you can verify for yourself, I entreat you to do so, and judge for yourself what is right, correct, and valid. I may be wrong, and my position or say-so is no more authoritative and carries no more weight than anyone else's here.

My EF Z58 was providing enough flow right out of the box to be used with some shimmering inks (and show shimmer), even if I'm mostly limited to those I got at the recent Pelikan hub : Organic Studio glycine worked well too, more discreet than the Diamine above, but that's a blue/dark teal. Diamine Winter miracle dries as a very dark purple, almost brown/black.

As I kept trying different nibs on some (cheap) pens loaded with said inks, and as my broadest nib is a Lamy Z50 M, maybe I'm not the best to judge.

I have Ooly red and 4001 green in other pens already, otherwise yes. I am considering gold: either Pelikan Golden Beryl or Sheaffer’s King’s Gold.  The other pens have Lamy Turquoise,  a Chinese orange cartridge. a five below yellow cartridge, Serenity Blue, and Pelikan Tanzanite. Also not necessarily a pen and ink matcher, so if you have other ideas, feel free to drop them here.

Thank you! If I hadn’t just inked the two latest pens with red and green, I would have put the dark green in this one. It’s such a nice nib! It’s  definitely a Western EF, which I wasn’t sure was going to be. Interested to try the steel nib on the cp1 (which is going in my stocking) that is coming and compare.
