No new pens or pen shows for me today, but I am using this bad boy in honor of Fountain pen day!

Possible change of plans for me. It’s raining, and a pen I’d ordered awhile back arrived today. It seems like that package is saying Happy Fountain Pen Day.

And so am I

Happy Fountain Pen Day to All.

Well, I should have opened the package before posting. I saw Royal Mail and assumed it was the pen. Instead it’s an item I ordered for my brother’s birthday that was on eBay, from the UK. Good it is here. Now to see when the rain will stop.

Well, the rain is not going to let up. The rain gauge shows 1.3”. It was 1.17” not that long ago.  I might order a planner I’ve been looking at for Fountain Pen Day. Then perhaps I’ll get out paper and pens, and write a long overdue letter.

I have not bought any pens!  I bought ink.  And another Taccia pen roll.  And wrote a poem which I posted on the Amateur Poetry thread.

I did however, provide some others with lists of suitable pens.

There is an undated planner I’ve been looking at. Maybe I’ll order it. In an hour or so the rain gauge went from 0.7” to 1.5” of rain. It’s still raining. We need rain here, so it’s good. It’s also 43°F, so it’s a cold rain. I think I’ll save the Five Below trip for another day.

Fountain Pen Day didn’t turn out as I expected. No trip for under $5 fountain pens. I didn’t get the cake I’ve bought ever since I knew of FPD. With my Dad gone, it’s too much cake for two of us. But well, I notice the change. I did order a planner style notebook to use in 2023, though I could start it whenever.  The rain gauge shows 2.18” now, and it’s still raining. I’d rather read a book I checked out than write a letter.

I looked at Kaco Retro fountain pens, then decided not to get one because of the hooded EF nib.

I ordered a puzzle too, that is of 4 vintage posters of US National Parks. I guess I should not have let the rain stop me. Once I looked out, and it was a downpour. With the temperature in the 40°s, staying in seemed better.

Happy Fountain Pen Day everyone.

That certainly seems like a good day to stay inside with a book. Pouring and chilly is not my kind of weather to be out and about in. Hope you were able to enjoy the day anyway 😃

Took my vintage Conklin Halloween pen out of its pen drawer and inked it up with KWZI Grapefruit to celebrate.  Great ink in one of my favorite pens.

Well, I got to spend FP Day at the Ohio Pen Show.  Got to the site hotel around 9:30 AM, and left there a little before 8 PM.  Got two bottles of ink (Noodler's 1984, and Birmingham Pens Muskrat; got one pen repaired/restored (a black lockdown filler Parker Vacumatic); one cleaned out really well (the *not* -- of course -- "Cordovan Brown" 51 Aerometric I got recently on eBay); and two others taken home for repairs that couldn't be done at the show (the sterling Cisele Parker 75, which was leaking from the collar; and the Pelikan M100 -- the piston rod snapped in two a while back because I didn't realize it needed silicone grease as soon as it did :headsmack:).  And I put a bid in one one entry in the silent auction; no, I'm NOT telling anyone what lot # it was, other than it was NOT "Lot 49" (let's see how many truly geeky people on here catch the reference...).  Got a FP Day 2022 pin at someone's table (yay!), schmoozed with various people, scoped out a few goodies that MIGHT be in my budget (after the repairs and possible repairs), and got recommendations on what brand(s) of converters might work in a Sheaffer school pen.

And all in all, had a WAY better day than Thursday, where i had to go home TWICE before I ever got out of Allegheny County (first because I needed to get the plug to connect the phone charger cord to the cigarette lighter, and then because when I stopped to fill up the gas tank for the car, I couldn't find my wallet! :gaah:  Called home, had my husband call the grocery store, drove the roughly twenty miles home to check there myself, then home to check the driveway and then did a MORE thorough search of the car (it had fallen onto the floor in front of the front passenger's seat and was hidden by a couple of tote bags).  But as a result, I got on the road for REAL yesterday about noon.  Then got stuck in a few construction zones and THEN WAZE decided to take me on and off and back ON I-270 repeatedly to get to the show site hotel (and sort of stumbled in the door around 3:30 PM...).  But then was MUCH better about getting me from there to the place I'm staying (only about a 10-15 minute drive each way on local roads).

So tomorrow it's going to be seeing what other pens are going to get repaired, and, and well, there's one I have my eye on, and see how the silent auction goes (I'll admit that I've always seen silent auctions done pretty publicly, so you can see how you stand in the bidding as it goes along; this is more like a secret ballot where only your entry order number and the lot(s) you're bidding on get written down on the list of lots you fill out....

Happy FPD everyone! I celebrated by cleaning up my new repair pens. I've got them soaking as we speak.

Sounds like everyone has had a good one.

Oh and, yeah, I bought some (meaning like 30) ink samples. Whoops.

Thank you for your kind words. Binge watching the series Blockbuster right now.

No Fountain Pen Day purchases specifically, but in the last few days (week?) my 2023 Franklin Covey 2023 planner (Monticello-Classic size) arrived.

I inked a couple of pens this evening - one of them is my vintage Parker Duofold streamlined - jade celluloid - factory stub. I was thinking for some reason that it needed some work, but checked it tonight and I was mistaken. Inked it with Levenger Forest Green and then inked my Lamy 2000 (F) with Levenger Cobalt Blue.

My Sheaffer Compact Cartridge arrived- it’s so cute, and kind of chonky, a departure from my usual slim pens.

Inking a pen counts. Just using a pen counts. Purchases aren’t necessary. Glad the nib was ok.

I copied this from the Fountain Pen Day website.

“The first Fountain Pen Day will be celebrated on November 2nd, 2012. It was created to help embrace, promote, and share the use of fountain pens in day-to-day life, as well to help revive handwriting as a whole.”

@Penguincollector cool vintage pen, and it looks great with the pen rest.

Thank you! It’s a Hello Kitty chopstick rest, they work well with pens. It’s true that the spirit of the day is enjoyment of the hobby, even if sometimes it feels like the FP Black Friday. I decided against buying anything today because I bought the Sheaffer and a Lamy nib this week.
