Fountain Pen Day 2022

Oh, if I'm reading email (or FPN), or checking out local places to eat, that's one thing.  But stuff like banking?  Not so much....  And given that the hotel chain where I'm staying has really lousy IT for their website, I can't really trust their security; they seem to think there's TWO people going to be in the room; and WORSE customer service -- I was on the phone the other day on hold for an HOUR AND A HALF (and keeping a running tally on their FB page in the process -- ain't I a stinker? ) all because in spite of signing up for their rewards program (with the explicit instructions to NOT bombard my inbox with ads) they were sending me stuff at regular intervals.  When I FINALLY got someone on the phone, I was pretty irate.  And as a sop, the woman gave me 500 free rewards points (I told her "If that makes you feel better -- but I'm unlikely to want to book a room with your chain EVER AGAIN...").  Hmmm.  Wonder how much of a discount I could get if I cashed in those rewards points this weekend (oh, and I ALSO said on their FB page that they were making Red Roof Inn look GOOD in comparison...).

@PenguincollectorThanks.  Today has been a little hectic, but so far better -- only one hangup call and since the number traces to the name on the caller ID, it could just have been someone misdialing (only the person didn't bother to wait for the answering machine to pick up, and hung up after four rings). 

I've got clothes and some toiletries mostly packed (some stuff won't get packed till the last minute; and still have to find a jumbo ziplock bag to put the change of shoes in).  Got the worst of the mess in the car dealt with (even got most of the empty plastic bottles rinsed and in the recycling bin, except for the ones that had chocolate milk in them (ewww -- don't know how long they've been in there) and those are now in the sink with cold water in them (if I don't get them washed out before I leave, oh well -- they're my husband's, so HE can deal with them, because I got all the rest of the dishes from last night washed).  And in a bit I will grab a small ziplock and put plastic spoons in (I save money by bringing yogurt containers to eat for lunches -- a dollar carton of yogurt on sale at the grocery store is way cheaper than fast food, and I can then stick the freezer pack in the room fridge).

Re: Hotel wifi - a lot of people use a VPN. I use my phone as a hotspot. Both get you out of the free hotel wifi.

Good point. I live in mid-America, in Missouri. Maybe tomorrow….

 

Edit here:  I checked the mail earlier today, and nothing was there. I checked it just now, and the mailbox was full. And my Fountain Pen Day Swag is part of it. Hurray!

I have the Custom 74 in fine and medium. The fine is dry and so far only works well with Iroshizuku inks. The medium is surprisingly wet and writes a much broader line than Pilot medium stainless steel nibs such as on the Metropolitan.  I like them both, but if you want a fine pen you might want to try before you buy.

I found finicky Pilot pens work quite well with Visconti ink too 😊

Two Asvine P20 and seven Jinhao 80 pens ordered, so far. Might get some more on or after the 10th November, when eligibility for the next lot of discount coupons kick in.

I picked this up in anticipation of tomorrow, Fountain Pen Day. It can hold the Five Below fountain pens in the car. I have four of these already. I fold down the top, and store inked pens in them.

I figure I've paid for it with the cost of the hotel room already.  I did have trouble connecting to it this evening (there is no useful way to call the desk from the phone in the room that I was able to find).  So I had to go down there and then go back up to the room to bring my laptop down.  And apparently the connection is just sluggish.  Also, there seems to be a dearth of available wall plugs in useful spots (for a room that's effectively a suite ).  Good thing there's nobody else in the room besides me.  But at least there's a sofa where I can put my feet up and there is one available plug so I can get my computer charged up.

As for FP Day, I made an early start by getting a replacement converter for the Falcon that accidentally went through the washing machine, and saying hi to some people I know from past shows.

I announced to my family that today was fountain pen day.

 

Got no response or interest.

 

Means that I get to enjoy it all be myself.

 

Hope my fountains pens understand my devotion.

I am a little ashamed to say that as soon as I got an email reminder from pen chalet, I impulse-filled my cart to the shipping minimum... I hadn't been planning on making this order and it sets back other fp prospects.

 

I hope Robert Oster shop exclusive Sunburn shades well (hurr hurr) and proves I made the right move.

 

I am going to play with my new herbin inks tomorrow night
