Mini review of 4 FPR inks: Royal Flush Blue, Firecracker Red, Tangerine Dream, Cosmic Pink

I didn't have time for reviews under the formal guidelines in the review forum, but I wanted to share some quick thoughts and photos because I haven't seen a lot of chat about FPR inks. I think they have some good stuff. The other day I posted impressions of Mardi Gras (purple with green shading) which I really liked. Here are 4 more colors.

The only paper I photographed was a Clairefontaine notebook. I messed with the photos to get the inks looking  pretty close to how they look to the eye, even if the paper has a color cast.

Royal Flush Blue (awesome)

This is a very vibrant blue ink that shades between deep and medium sky blue. If there is a ton of ink you won't see shading, like in the first "FPR" letters. With less flow, there is obvious shading. I like this a lot, it's my favorite blue currently, and a daily driver. It even performs OK on copy paper, if you use a very fine nib. I didn't notice any flow problems either, it seems to be not too wet or dry for any pens I tried.

Firecracker Red (just OK)

This ink is kind of like the hue of Diamine Matador, but less saturated. Or, think of Wild Strawberry, but more orange. It's not bad, but I prefer bolder colors. Dip testing was hard with this ink, it did not flow well. This is not a bad ink, I am just not sure where it fits.

Tangerine Dream (great)

I like orange inks and this one seems to stand up to Yu-Yake and Kin-Mokusei. Being darker than either, it kind of fits between Yu-Yake and Autumn Oak. I like this a lot and I'll get a bottle next time I order from FPR.

Cosmic Pink (WTH)

I don't know how to feel about this ink. The pink hue isn't bad but the green shading usually comes out looking brown. The catalog page says it should have some gold, but it's really hard to see. I tried a few papers and on none of them could I get it to look like the catalog page, where it is gorgeous.

That's it for now!

Yep, they are worth a look. I liked almost everything so far, and really liked Mardi Gras, Royal Flush Blue, Tangerine Dream, and Galaxy Blue... That one, I will post about later.

Tangerine Dream looks good because it reminds me of Apache Sunset and Sazerac.

The red and orange and pink look intriguing...the red seems like a rust-red color?  And that muted pink!  ❤️

Thanks for the reviews.

My latest ebook.   And not just for Halloween!

My other pen is a Montblanc.

Yeah, I guess you could say the red has elements of rust and brick, depending on how it goes down. It isn't bad at all, it's just not in-your-face like Dragon's Blood.
