Eversharp Star Reporter Refills?

Recommended Posts

A couple of Eversharp Star Reporter BPs have crossed my threshold. Both are maroon with plastic caps with the wide yellow-metal band. Gostony and Schneider say they're dated 1948-1954. Binder says the plastic caps were introduced in 1953.

Both pens have deformed plastic Kimberly refills, which makes sense. These are descendants from Kimberly after the Eversharp purchase.

Past FPN threads say Cross refills fit. However, they're loose in length.

Is there a current refill that works? If not, is there a suitable packing material for the end of the barrel, so Cross refills work without damage and is removable?

Thanks for your consideration and any help.

My notes say "With the addition of a piece of tubing ~3/16" OD and 3/4" long, a PaperMate PowerPoint or LubriGlide refill and spring will fit perfectly into an Eversharp/Kimberly Star Reporter capped ballpoint pen. The tubing needs to fit over the plastic rear end of the PM refill." This should also apply to the Schneider 225 refills.

First off, geez, peas, Louise, that's one heckova fast response. Thanks, so much. I'll look into it.

Second, apologies for the poor quality photo. Obviously I'm no Alfred Steiglitz.

Greetings all,

I picked up an Eversharp Star Reporter at an antiques fair over the the last weekend.  I wasn't familiar with the model before I got this one.  I was impressed that it had a separate cap which I haven't seen with bps, other than Shaeffer No Nonsense.  It took a bit of research to identify the model.  Mine looks the same as the one pictured in this tread in maroon with a Kimberley cartridge, plastic cap too, except that it's green.

I tried a Cross cartridge and it didn't fit, the opening in the grip section was too narrow for the tip.

A question, were there any other pens or pencils manufactured to match, eg a fp or a mp, or was the Star Reporter a bp only model?

Thanks!
