The next photo has the Kaweco Sport Classic in red that I ordered for the Chiefs going to the Super Bowl.

Huh. The 49ers are going to the Super Bowl, and it never occurred to me to buy a pen to commemorate it. But now it's February and I am allowing myself one pen acquisition per month this year, so now I need to think of something red and gold. Or white with gold and red accents.

A Pilot Elite or e95s in burgundy.  The cap is gold tone.

Greatest pocket pen of all time.

Hmm, well hmm, I do like Kaweco pens a lot.  So I’ll reserve judgement for now.

I have three of each. As much as I like the Kaweco Sport pens, I think the Pilot Elites, to me, are better pens. Plus the Elite nibs are just sublime. The Kaweco nibs, IMHO, are merely pretty good. I had to swap a EF Kaweco nib because it was so scratchy.

I thought of this but it looks a bit too Commanderian (formerly Redskinnian):

Waiting no longer!  The R2-D2 pen arrived in the mail this morning (a day earlier than the initial ETA, and 3 days before. the revised ETA!).   And now in the process of it and the converter being flushed out.  Trying to decide now what to ink it up with as a starter (it did come with a cartridge, presumably Skrip Black, but I specifically ordered the converter for it).

Of course, so did the sewer bill and the trash bill, and I'm NOT happy about that last one, given that twice recently the company hired by my town never bothered with our street or the cross street up the block from us....  And it looks as if they have jacked up the price as well....  So, Monday, I apparently get to contact the borough, AGAIN....

Let us know what you think.  Looking at their website, it looks suspiciously similar to the old Parker Vacumatic filler, which wouldn't be the worst idea to copy.

The pen arrived today. I agree, it does seem to be heavily based on the Vacumatic. You unscrew the blind cap and there is a slender shaft which you press down repeatedly in the ink bottle, waiting a couple of seconds between each time, until the pen stops making bubbles when you press it. To call it a piston fountain pen is, to my mind, almost unforgivably misleading, or an outright lie. Shame, Esterbrook! You made a vacuum filler, now own it!

I mis-read your post at first, thinking that you thought that this was a bad idea to copy. Now that I have reading comprehension, I agree that it's not a bad filling system at all, at least not until it needs servicing. I have no idea if there are any user-servicing options for the filling system. But while it is working, it holds a decent amount of ink. There are two advantages over the Parker iterations of vacuum fillers: the ink window, and the unscrewable nib unit (for cleaning and drying out).

I am waiting on another Kaweco Sport in Concrete Gray. I used rewards money to get the price down to $24.71.  Had to get it with a fine nib, but it seems like it comes with a clip.

My only Kaweco died by drowning in the washing machine a few months ago. Perhaps it is time for another.

Took me well over a decade to get a '60s-70 Kaweco sport, semi-flex, piston pen.

 I'll put it in my pants pocket and power walk to the next Gasthaus. :P Coming back will be a longer walk. :happyberet:

Ransom Bucket cost me many of my pictures taken by a poor camera that was finally tossed. Luckily, the Chicken Scratch pictures also vanished.

The cheap Chinese-made pen I bought yesterday (under the Peter Pauper Press imprint) listed on the back of the package that the box includes "UNIVERSAL CARTRIDGE AND PISTON".  So I opened up the box in the store and it had a converter already installed -- but it's a slide converter(!), not a twist-style one which I would have preferred.

In their defense, though, I will give the company credit for having a slide converter which seems to work more smoothly (at least when I was flushing any residual manufacturing gunk out of the pen) than the cheapie Parker slide converters.  We'll see how it does when I actually put ink into it (the label on the bottom of the box *also* says "FINE 0.5 MM LINE" ).

I highly recommend them. Maybe upgrade to an AL Sport.

I'm waiting for an old Reform calligraphy set, with four piston-filling pens with italic nibs from 1.1mm to 2.3mm wide. Still has its bottle of black ink, although I don't know how much ink is left.

I am curious. What happened to it?

In principle, I do not see a reason why you FP should die from going through a washing cycle. I can see it ruining the laundry if it was loaded with ink, specially permanent ink, but in principle (that is only my opinion) it should go through unscathed.

If you are to be ephemeral, leave a good scent.
