Hey everyone! I'm wondering if anyone knows if Michael's carries any fountain pen friendly paper anymore? I know they stopped carrying Rhodia(*or at least the stores in my area did*). Anyone know of any substitutes?

I would be interested to know as well.

I wouldn’t even mind places like Walmart or Target, that have those Leuchtturm lookalikes.

It looks like they only sell it online now. I didn’t see if they offered any in store replacement. Are there other places local to you to try? If not, Jetpens has a great selection of papers and has the lowest free shipping threshold that I have seen and carries Rhodia. They have a few paper sample packs that you might find  interesting as well.

They might have leuchtturm notebooks,  check the Calligraphy section they might have some FP friendly paper.

I think office depot has black and red notebooks which are good from what I hear

A while back I bought a stack of Pen & Gear vinyl covered junior composition books at Wal-Mart that are made in India and have pretty good paper, although it's rather thin and prone to ghosting.  I've seen no feathering or strike-through.  The pages are micro-perforated.  I use them for my bullet journals because they fit in my cargo pockets.

I concur. I have learned that paper from  India (and sometimes Malaysia and Indonesia) is generally fountainpen-friendly. The reason is, I believe, that many producers use sugarcane fiber, aka “bagasse”, for the paper because there’s a lot of it in India as a usable by-product of sugar production. I have bought excellent composition notebooks and sketch pads at my local “dollar store” ( sad that these are all now $1.25 due to this miserable inflation) from India.

I’ve attached here a photo of an excellent large-size sketchbook made in India I recently bought at Target for all of $7.99. The weight isn’t noted, but I estimate it’s between 60 - 75 lbs. It’s acid-free and takes ink very well. The sketch I did of a hummingbird with sepia ink in my album was done on this paper.

In general, paper from Vietnam, Korea, and India are usually FP friendly and can be found in dollar stores, grocery stores, and other everyday stores like Target. One paper I use daily is Ampad Gold Fibre- inexpensive and I found it at the grocery store (Winco). Also the Mead reinforced paper is ok. Target sells Southworth Resumé paper and a bunch of Indian paper journals as well if you have one nearby. Also, Tomoe River notebooks are $10 on Amazon right now if that is available to you.
