Once you get them, will you post a photo of them, please?

as requested.

here is a pic of one of my two Eversharp Astronaut pens (on the right) It's a clear knock off of a Fisher CH4 (or AG7... would need to see and hold both to really know...)

on the left is my chrome bullet fisher space pen that I've used so much I've worn the chrome off of in a spot on the cap...

I am positive that this pen has more "time in the field" than most (non infantry) army Corporals...

It was my constant reliable companion for something like 12 years?... (then I got a desk job and could use fountain pens... :D )

sorry for the crappy pic, all my photo gear is packed.

Just give me the Parker 51s and nobody needs to get hurt.

@IThinkIHaveAProblem thank you so much for posting the photo. I can Astronaut on the clip. Cool!

You’re welcome. Glad you liked it.

i will say that the grooves on the section of the fisher pen are much sharper than on the eversharp. Which frankly makes them far more useful for actually gripping the pen as both can be quite slippery.

I wonder if a real AG7 or CH4 has the same sharp feel to the grooves… it’s not enough IMO to justify the extreme cost of those pens, but it would be a major point in their favour.

Just give me the Parker 51s and nobody needs to get hurt.

Just ran across this item online. I had forgotten about this movie.  First Man (2018) Ryan Gosling as Neil Armstrong

Primarily a biopic of Neil Armstrong feom before he was chosen for the space program to being the first man on the moon. I saw it in the theater originally. I will have to watch again soon.

@Runnin_Ute I’m guess it’s a pretty good move if you plan to watch it again. I’ve never seen it.

I remember liking it the first time. It was a different perspective than you usually see.

We had a partial solar eclipse in Central Europe today. And as I was able to take pictures I thought I share 30 seconds of pure celestial magic with you.

@Astronymus That was cool, thank you for sharing it. There will be a total solar eclipse in 2024.  I’m in western Missouri, and this one will be in eastern Missouri. If I’m able to, I’d love to travel to see it.

  • 11 months later...

It’s World Space Week 2023, which runs from October 4-10 every year.

I need to get a photograph of my space themed notebooks. Trouble is, they are in different areas of the house. I’ll try to do that today. This year I’ve been buying quite a few space themed T-shirts. I found the ones I’ve bought the most from a link from the Planetary Society. It was called something similar to more ways to support us. It linked to the Chopshop store.

Since the title I chose a year ago included pens, maybe people should show their Benu pens. The material gathered from asteroid Bennu recently returned to Earth in late September.  You can find links to read about it. I’ll supply one.

This year I bought a couple items for either the name or color. The A5 Hobonichi cover is called Cloudy Moon. I’m not a Hobonichi insert user, so this was bought for the name, and hoped it would hold any of my A5 notebooks. A Leuchtturm 1917 notebook did fit.   The Kaweco AL’s first iteration was called Midnight Green. Its successor, mine, is Aurora Green. Earth is in space, and auroras are a beautiful phenomenon. Not that I’ve seen any, except on TV. At the top is a Cavallini Co. pouch.

For day two of World Space Week, here is what to look up into the sky for this October.

Thank you. I have it in the larger size, with a planets pen/pencil case in the smaller size.

Oh rats.   It's only going to be a partial eclipse in the Pittsburgh area.  And we might not be able to see it at all -- I clicked on the weather link for that day and we're supposed to be getting rain.... :(

I remember the one that could be seen in full in Nova Scotia (yeah, the one made famous by that song by Carly Simon).  It was partial where I lived at the time (about 50 miles north of NYC) and my dad set up one of his telescopes in the driveway for the kids in my neighborhood, with a card you could look at instead of looking into the sky.  And I remember a partial one a number of years ago here, where you could see reflections of little crescents everywhere on sidewalks (there was a similar phenomenon one time when we lived in MA, but I didn't even know about the eclipse until it was too late (although they showed the phenomenon in Boston and Cambridge).

My contribution to the discussion.  This pen is similar to @OCArt's pen a few posts back.  It was manufactured at the Soyuz factory in Leningrad in 1959 to commemorate the arrival of the Luna 2 probe at the moon.  Luna 2 was the first man made object to reach another celestial body, crashing into the moon about 60 miles from where Apollo 15 would land 12 years later.  Here's the pen in its holder:

A close up of the medallion on the base:

And the felt bottom of the base:

The pen has a hooded nib like the Parker "51" and a piston filling system that still works reasonably well.  This pen has flow problems so I don't ink it often.  Of course, the first time I inked it I had to use Noodler's Nikita.  It's a nice little piece of history that looks neat just sitting on my desk.
