Cosmo Air Light Discontinued

Keyless Works

Recommended Posts

I've just received word from Nippon Paper Industries that Cosmo Air Light is being discontinued. There is some remaining stock but there will be no further production. We still have a good amount of CAL notebooks and will try to secure more of the paper so we can produce some more notebooks before it is gone for good.

We recently released a CAL Hardcover Notebook

The only constant thing is change.

I endeavour to be frank and truthful in what I write, show or otherwise present, when I relate my first-hand experiences that are not independently verifiable; and link to third-party content where I can, when I make a claim or refute a statement of fact in a thread. If there is something you can verify for yourself, I entreat you to do so, and judge for yourself what is right, correct, and valid. I may be wrong, and my position or say-so is no more authoritative and carries no more weight than anyone else's here.

And I'm still on my first Cosmo Air notebook to see if I would like this paper better than Tomoe River. (Jury is still out on that)

Given all the great press that this paper has received, domestically and abroad, I am surprised that they would discontinue it. I wonder why?

There isn't enough volume. The fountain pen and stationery niche is tiny and we represent a very small percentage of the production. Cosmo Air Light is a catalog paper designed for color printing, it was never intended as a writing paper.

never tried it, but heard good things. Perhaps I will not buy some so that those of you who do use/like it can have a bit more. And I won't realize what I am missing.

Well, I use mine exclusively to record ink usage. I did not like it enough for other uses, both the paper and the limited format options.

Oh well. I guess my next ink log will be different.

Exhuming this thread to ask: is cosmo air paper actually discontinued? I'm seeing it in stock in many places - all references to it being discontinued are a year old.

I talked with a vendor a while back who was positive that the Cosmo papers were both discontinued... But said large quantities remained in existence so they would stay available for a while.

Beginning to wonder as well. I got a Yamamoto paper sampler that had several sheets in it in September and as far as I know, said sampler is still available. And maybe it isn't really discontinued but shortages have been due to supply chain issues that some places/products have been having (were)?

Yes it is discontinued but I am guessing they still have a huge stock so Yamamoto has been putting out the writing pad A5 of cosmo air light (which is also available in Amazon JP) in every big or small events here.
There are literally like hundreds of paper/notebook that is FP friendly in the Japan market, like @Keyless Works explained, the niche is small and the competition is harsh(some good notebooks are like 100-200yen each even), especially with government trying to push the whole "paperless" thing now, I suppose they have no choice but to discontinue certain series.

I just bought the last 2 packs of Cosmo Air Light A5 cream from JetPens, and an A5 Snow for good measure. The Light was on the Last Chance page.
