Extra Fine Nib Ink Review: Noodler's Zhivago

This is review #198 in my series.  Here's the YouTube video:

Post-recording notes: Fearing staining, I switched to a cartridge and the Penmanship body.  I had to wipe a grey film off the slide and cover slip. Cleaning was a bear.  Swabs, pipe cleaner, pen flush, and disassembly were all involved. Mostly, the grey film had to be wiped off wherever it was found

I really don't have a green this dark. It's similar in color to Diamine Salamander, but much darker. As I feared, the cameras and scanner didn't like this color and picked up mostly "dark".  The green is easily seen by my eyes, in all instances (writing, swatch, slide smear, line width, etc.). The water test results has hints of the green in places...

Screenshot: The camera just didn't pick up any green, so this won't help at all there.

Scan: Even in the dry-time smear, it barely picked up any green. :(

Zoom: Not bad - a little too yellow, perhaps, but otherwise close.

Absorbent Paper: This is actually pretty close.  Paler than on FP-friendly paper (perhaps because it spreads out), but the right color.

Copy Paper: Same as absorbent, except it looks a little too yellow in the image. It is darker on this paper than the absorbent, but lighter than FP-friendly.

The line width measurement is the "T" in "Dry Time".  Magnification is 100x.  The grid is 100x100µm.  The scale is 330µm, with eleven divisions of 30µm each.  The line width for this ink is roughly 300µm. (For the curious, with 198 inks measured, the average line width is 293µm.)

The slide of the ink was as boring as watching grass grow in Yawnville, so I didn't capture any images.

And here is a screen of the final result, for those not interested in the video:

Great job @LizEF

This is a great ink for washes and drawing. But for writing I'm not so sure, especially if the dry times are that long ;)

Wow what a cliffhanger...I guess the cursed snek would save Makhabest 😛 :D

:)  Well, it writes very well - feels good coming out of the pen and onto the paper, doesn't dry quickly in the pen or on the nib during pauses.  So, good for writing, just not for drying.  But I'm reasonably sure it dries within several minutes - it's not like Apache Sunset where it's still wet days later...

I have a sample of this ink and it is Not A Green I Like™.

:) Yeah, not going on my "buy" list any time soon - too dark, and a royal pain to clean out.  But otherwise, it's actually quite pleasant to use.

Regardless, it is a great review and thanks for showing this ink to us.

Thanks! :) You're most welcome!

Thank you @LizEF - another excellent review.

I don't do Noodler's in general, and if I did, it certainly wouldn't be this one...

I will also be holding my virtual breath until next week.

I think this is a good color for fine nibs, but Eternal Dry time?....I have a sample of this ink.  Now I'm scared to use it.  😝

Poor Mahkabesh!  Someone help him.

Thanks as always for the review and serial.  It's interesting to see the old pen again.

My latest ebook.   And not just for Halloween!

My other pen is a Montblanc.

Thank you @LizEFfor the review and for the drama with a nail-biting cliffhanger .... 😲

While I can be relaxed about the Zhivago ink, I feel aroused about what happened to Makhabesh!

Is there a way to send magic energy to him? - or how otherwise can we interact to safe his life?

For first aid, I send a 💥 (fireball).

One life!

Whoosh!  A nearby monstrosity burst into flame!  Good aim, InesF!  :D

Thank you for the review. Zhivago is indeed an almost black green - not very exciting to write with. I mainly use it in an F-nibbed Kaweco EDC pen for use at work. Once dry, it’s quite waterproof, which is a plus for work-related notetaking. I was more impressed with this ink when using it to draw with - you can coax all kinds of green from it. I hadn’t expected this much drama from the ink, based on its fairly boring looks in writing.

:) You and @yazeh should do a Co-Razy View drawing! ;) Show us what this ink is best at.

The drama isn't the ink - it's Makhabesh being captured by a mutant monster! 😱 ;)
