Teranishi Guitar Taisho Roman - 4 New Inks

Teranishi Chemical Industry Co. Ltd came out with four new inks in their Guitar Taisho Roman series, adding to the eight already existing inks in their line-up. These inks come in really nice vintage-style 40ml bottles, packaged in stylish boxes.

Like their predecessors, these new inks look really nice - fairly saturated with a toned down colour palette. My first impression is that these will be great to work with. My taste usually goes to soft and watercolour style inks, and these saturated inks are not at all like that. But Teranishi manages to make all their inks look muted & vintage-like, and for that reason they totally work for me. I wanted to give you a quick overview of them: in my opinion they are worth checking out. Full reviews of these inks are coming somewhere in 2023, but it might take a while to get there 😉 So many inks... so little time.

Below, for completeness, an overview of the other eight inks in the Teranishi series.

I love the look and packaging of these, and have dithered about getting some to try, but I think I'm now pleased I hadn't yet. There are only a couple (one from the previous set and one of the new) that even appeal a little, so unless they are exceptionally well behaved or have something interesting going on in their make-up, I think I'm going to be able to pass.

Thank you @namrehsnoom - and my wallet thanks you too.

@namrehsnoom Thank you for that!

My bottles of Gentle Green and Opera Rose arrived yesterday from Japan. Originally, I had eight of the inks in that product line — including Classy Burgundy and Emotional Olive — in my shopping cart; but it was ultimately your swatches of the first eight (thank you) that made me realise Salon de Violet, Modern Red, and by extension Classy Burgundy, are not likely to exhibit sheen in ‘normal’ writing on common notepaper (and I exclude Tomoe River FP, Cosmo Air Light, and such from that category) even though I've seen lovely marketing(?) images of them being sheening. Melancholic Blue is the one that is most likely to exhibit sheen; but then it reminds me too much of Diamine Jalur Gemilang, of which I already have >200ml in reserve here.

Ditto.

Thanks for showing us these. I've been a little curious about them. To my eye, of these, only Opera Rose and maybe, but probably not, Nostalgic Honey looks interesting enough for me to potentially buy them though I look forward to your reviews, as always. I enjoy your reviews even when I don't much like the ink!

Any US retailers who carry this brand?  Some of the colors are really interesting (in particular I'm wondering how Melancholid Blue compares to MB Leo Tolstoy).

Thanks for posting this. I love the boxes. Smoky Navy is my kind of ink. I just ordered a bottle of this and a few others. @inkstainedruth, Amazon has some of these on their website. The prices are reasonable, but they ship from Japan, so it will take a few weeks to get them.

As @alexwi recently said, "The only problem with fountain pen forums is that every single time I become a bit active it costs me money."

I'm still trying to figure out how to list all my pens down here.

I ordered Nostalgic Honey and Modern Red not even five minutes ago, on account of how good an ink Opera Rose turned out to be (and Modern Red alone is slightly discounted, compared to the rest).
