I inked up a pan using this ink and was very pleasantly surprised. Please see the photo for my review.

The paper is Clairefontaine.

Thanks for your review, @kcwookie! :)  Fascinating how much darker the writing looks than the swatch - the swatch looks anything other than blue-black, but the writing looks nice and dark.  Good shading, too!

Thanks for the review.  I'm with LizEF on the difference between the swatch and the actual writing sample.  Admittedly, I actually like both the swab and the writing sample, but I can always use another blue-black in the arsenal.  (And to think when I started out I couldn't fathom why ANYONE would use a blue-black.... :headsmack:)

I remember years ago when I only had a bottle of Quink BB and splurged to get Sheaffer Skrip…blue black. The Cross brought out bottled BB and my eyes glazed over.

In my experience, most pen problems are ink problems. Not all pens will write or write well with all ink. Paper also plays a part, especially if you use America's favorite bar napkin, Moleskin. There are many inks that look good in samples but terrible in the pen. Dark Storm was the virgin ink for that pen, it was the first fill so there is no chance of mixing.

This is why I don't like swabs -- they really don't give an accurate depiction as to how the ink will look coming out of a nib.

And of course some inks do better in some pens than others -- you're right about that.

As for paper?  I got warned about how poorly Moleskin plays with FP inks early on.  But I love your description of "bar napkin"....

Interesting color, to be sure, but hardly what'd I'd call blue-black (in the sense that 1864 is blue-black). While the difference between the swab and the writing seems striking, looking carefully at the writing it appears the ink *Is* that color but features very dark shading. This is noticeable throughout but especially so in the word "performance", on the p, f and final e.

It's hard work to tell which is Old Harry when everybody's got boots on.

Thank you for sharing!

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

Nice review

This looks more like a teal black than a blue black ;)

That may well be. I’m a bit colorblind.
