Sailor Manyo Hinoki Ink Review

Sailor Manyo Hinoki was the first of the new manyos in my cart because it was described as blue-grey with dual shading. I did not find it to be "blue-grey". To me it looked like greyish-green. It is likely way less green than ayame but still disappointing in this respect. Fuji turned out to look more like what I expected from this description.

As pale, dual-shading inks go, it behaves decently. It is not the faintest or driest. The more I used it, the more I liked it. It has a lot of depth and complexity.

Like many of the dual shading inks, there is a reddish dye that sinks to the bottom and a green component that sloshes on top.

That seems to be a very pale ink -- too pale to really be legible on the page unless in a very broad or stub nib.

Thanks for the review -- I can definitely pass on this one.

I think you make the ink look great!

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

Looks green to me too.

I'll pass on this one, but thanks for the review. 👍

  • 1 year later...

I was late to the dual shading thing. I think Hinoki was the first one I used and I love it. Definitely more grey-blue than blue-grey. Lots of variation depending on the nib, paper, and ink flow. I think it’s best with a wet writer, and broader nibs highlight the fun features more but I still enjoy it with fine nibs.
