+1. Thank you for the information. Now we hope for more colours and nibs,

Yes, in fact that might cause me to hold off as I'm sure as soon as I buy one they'll unveil new finishes.

Looks great, I'm tempted by the Bock 250 over the smaller #5 060 - standard converter and nice proportioned form factor.

I wonder if this is a stopgap until Kaweco gets the piston version Sport ready.

It would be a great way to increase short term revenue to fund that effort.

Are there confirmed plans for this?

Unconfirmed. I heard it from this wonderful walk through of the Dutch Pen Show on Insta around 16:30 but it appears that line of questioning has been edited. So much for the power of closed platforms -- no archiving.

If Kaweco does ever release it, I am positive they will have many interested buyers.🙂

Until then, there is this new original model.

From what I recall from watching the video, design plans were still in the works, but unless there is the video to prove what Mr. Gutberlet replied, it is hearsay.

I take it from the video edit that they are just not ready to announce anything yet.

Back in 2016

Interesting --that blog is indeed date stamped 2016 but many of the comments, which are hosted on a different platform (Disqus) are date stamped as early as "10 years ago". (It could be that the blog post was actually much older but JetPens republished it or transferred to a new hosting platform which updated the date stamp.)

Not that it matters much as either way there's no Sport piston filler on the market presently. Maybe one of these days we'll see one. They cite the cost of new machinery as a hinderance which is understandable. New molds are typically thousands of dollars, as in five- or six-figures.

  • 1 month later...

I received mine yesterday I have used the supplied cartridge.

  1. I liked it - a lot actually.
  2. The 250 nib is great and even a little bouncy, not flexible, just forgiving.
  3. I wish it was more of a giant sport.
    1. The cap is short I like the clip but wish the cap was longer.
    2. The cap posts badly - does not post.
      1. I have a largish palms and stubby fingers, the pen is only just long enough to use unposted.
  4. At this price a converter should have been included.

I greatly anticipated this pen but upon further reflection it does not live up to my hopes. I've seen it placed next to a posted Sport and they are almost the same length. It's almost as if Kaweco simply wanted to fulfill two objectives:

  1. Feature a Bock 250 nibs ("large nib")
  2. Feature full sized converters

Besides those two things, I'm can't find a reason to need this pen. In fact, this makes me appreciate my Kaweco Perkeo collection even more.

Perhaps they'll start cranking out new finishes, colors, maybe even materials (plastic? brass? etc). That could get interesting.

Both pens capped the Sport AL is approx 20mm shorter than the Original 250 .

The Sport AL Posted  is effectively  15mm longer in the hand ready to write.

The Original 250 doesn't seem designed for posting  and is ungainly when you  sternly encourage it post.

@sketchstack Nothing wrong with either larger nibs or full size converters, but I think I like a lot of others expected a much better all round package.

I don't think you'll see a modern piston sport at a reasonable price unless it's designed in Germany - manufactured  in China.

Hope I'm wrong. There was a video of the CEO ? of Kaweco  talking about it- however the version I saw was in German or Dutch - some touted in as in the works others as a personal ambition / pipe-dream.

the kaweco original looks like a kaweco sport with it's cap permanently posted, at least in my eyes.

Bingo!  I think the purpose of the pen is for people who were asking for a sport that takes a long cartridge/converter and doesn't need to be posted... a desk version of the sport of you will.
