I may have responded to this on a a CRV elsewhere, but did you try Penlux Plum? Not exact, but might be close enough.

@kestrel

What do you think? I think Boysenberry could be an acceptable replacement.

Boysenberry looks like a good fit.  I'm playing with Diamine Damson right now and it is also a pretty good match if I dilute it.  I haven't quite figured out the right ration.  Yet.

I am always glad to encourage ink use.  :)

I agree with boysenberry.

I also would not recommend elderberry, the color is kind of drab and not very pleasing to me personally. I haven't been inspired to even put it in a pen yet...

I finally got around to checking with Birmingham about Boysenberry.

Trivia question.  What do Frick Stained Glass ink, Boysenberry ink, and the Passenger Pigeon all have in common?

They are all extinct.

Back to the drawing board.

For those who like to mix things up, this is my provisional recipe for a Frick substitute.  It is really close and I put it here with two caveats.  One, I have a defective opsin gene that affects my color perception a bit.  Two, one of the ingredients is in the same category as Frick, Boysenberry, and the Passenger Pigeon but it is still available on auction sites and the occasional flea market.  Faux Frick is well-behaved, shows good shading, and is easily cleaned out of pens.  Saturation is medium as you would expect with all that distilled water.  Happy mixing.

Faux Frick

6.0 mL Diamine Deep Dark Purple
1.5 mL Aurora Black
0.5 mL Skrip Slovenian Red
9.0 mL Distilled Water

Extinct already?

If necessary, you can probably switch Levenger Cardinal Red for the Skrip.

Glad you got a solution.

The Birmingham Pens site has a feature called “Ink Production Queue”.  If you click on the Boysenberry entry, it says that a new batch will be ready in one to three weeks. I’m signing up for email notification!

Two parts Diamine Damson mixed with one part distilled water is a very, very close substitute for Frick Stained Glass in color but writes a little dry.

How about if I send you some Ghost Blue?

Does Ghost Blue play well with others?

I dimly remember reading something on FPN about a clear, dyeless "ink" made exclusively for mixing but I can't find the post.  Does that sound familiar to you and, if so, have you tried it?

I use L'Artisan Pastellier Diluant - it has worked well with inks I've tried it with from other manufacturers. De Atramentis has something similar that's labelled "for Document inks" (or, rather, the equivalent in German) but I have no experience with it and have no idea if it plays well with other inks.

Thank you for the information.  I found a bottle of the De Atrementis Verdunning that should arrive in a few days.
