What was your last very deliberate pen purchase?

The blue marble Duofold seems to be a little more common that the Pearl (several of the former are on the 'Bay now) and sell for a little less, though also a beautiful color. Ideally I would have gotten an italic or oblique nib on the Centennial but those are scarce and usually much more expensive; supply and demand.

I edited the image since it was inverted when I first posted it.

Now that I think about it, I don’t think the pearl was an option when I bought mine.. It was May 1991, and Fischier says the pearl was not an option until fall of 1992. The store had black and blue for sure. One day I will track down both the Senior original and the ‘90s verson. I also want both in lapis, but my wants  are many.

Couldn't say no to a Parker 75 in either écossais or prince de gales with a broad nib at half price... It was the nib size that pushed me over. Only to then stumble upon a Pelikan M205 in red at a decent price...

  • 1 month later...

I’m planning on getting a Kaweco Elite Royal fountain pen in deep red. It’s to mark the Kansas City Chiefs going to the Super Bowl. I’ve done this twice for the KC Royals, and now soon to be three times for the KC Chiefs. When they were going to Super Bowl LIV, I got a Kaweco Ice Sport in red. They won that one. When they went to Super Bowl LV, I got a red Lamy Safari. They lost that one badly. Now for Super Bowl LVII, it’s another Kaweco. Unfortunately Vanness is out of 1.1mm nibs. That’s what I want. They have the 1.5mm, but it isn’t ideal for letter writing, when I get back to that. I’ve looked around some, and I can’t find it with the 1.1mm italic nib. I might have to email Vanness, as suggested by them for a notification.

After sleeping on it for a week... I'm getting a Kakimori nib in stainless steel. I already have a Tachikawa holder that will fit - the blue one that comes with a cap - it's old and stained with ink, but I might be able to clean it up a bit.

And Pilot Tsuwairo ink - the black pigmented one -  is travelling with it. I wanted to try that when it came out, but had forgotten about it til today.

Will work for pens...

Well, phooey, Vanness is no longer letting you add a stub or italic nib for no charge. It now costs $10 to add a 1.1mm or 1.5mm nib to a Kaweco. A saw on another website that a 1.1mm Kaweco nib would cost $15.

With more deliberations, I ended up buying a Conklin Duragraph Red Nights for the Chiefs going to the Super Bowl. I get the nib I want, a 1.1mm stub nib. I used to think the Red Nights was the prettiest of the “Nights” pens. I have the Orange Nights. Now I’ll have a pen I admired but didn’t get.

It was nice it was on sale too.

I don't remember the precise order, but my last two pen purchases were a TWSBI ECO Jade EF and a TWSBI ECO Transparent Yellow B. My next pen will be a TWSBI ECO Black M. After that, I probably won't buy any more pens unless TWSBI comes out with a solid red ECO or ECO-T, or unless one of my existing pens gets lost, broken, or stolen.

That's handsome. Have you chosen an ink?

Is the barrel translucent?  It's hard to tell from the photo.  And what sort of fill system does it have?  (I don't know very much about Conklins).

Oh, and I agree with AmandaW -- that pen is rather stunning looking!

It's a c/c, Ruth, and the barrel is translucent. I bought this same one a few years ago but sent it back without inking it.

Why did you send it back?  Did you not like the size of the pen when you got it or something?

It’s true on the C/C. Mine has a 1.1mm stub nib. I have the Orange Nights also. I got it because it reminds me of the much more expensive Delta Dolce Vita. I have 3 Conklin Duragraphs, one Stylograph and one All-American. They all have 1.1mm stub nibs. The All-American is a bit wide for me. I haven’t inked the Red Nights yet, but all the others have written well.

I setup a flashlight and the pen barrel.

Ordered a used lacquered Aurora Hastil and am waiting for it. was considering getting a new, sterling silver one, but was double the price and currently I am very tightly budget constrained. I am looking forward to comparing it against the MB Slimline/Noblesse models.

Got a notice that a listing on eBay was coming to an end, and discovered (with about an hour to go) that there weren't any bids on it.  Got it for the minimum, plus tax and shipping.

Nothing fancy, just a Parker Vector, but from a good seller I've bought from before: https://www.ebay.com/itm/385377120317?nma=true&si=y0v7tSYbTacq4%2F5UFf%2FM1jRnXN8%3D&orig_cvip=true&nordt=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557

Only bad part is that it may take a couple of months to get here....
