Thank you for the links. I like the writing of the second pen the best.

I am learning how to use them.  The flex makes you slow down.

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

I’m thinking about getting a Pilot Custom 74 with B nib in orange. I’ve looked for this pen before. I found a website, used the chat to ensure the pen is in stock in the nib choice.

I ordered an Opus 88 Picnic Pen in green from InkyPaw of Canada. This was on October 1. The order still shows unfulfilled. My brother tried to order this pen for my birthday. He found a thread on Reddit that shows a lot of people with problems ordering from InkyPaw. Emails go unanswered. Chats go unanswered.

I plan to try to cancel the order through PayPal. I hope to. If that happens, then I’ll use the money plus some more to get the Pilot pen. I just hope it remains in stock while I try to get the InkyPaw order dealt with. I wish I’d researched first.

In Orange? That must be a discontinued colour from before the official price increases for the Custom 74 models at least a couple of years ago, or maybe even 2019; they used to be ¥10,000+tax in the Japanese domestic market, instead of ¥12,000+tax as they are today. I thought the remaining stock of that has all dried up, at least from Japanese (eBay/Rakuten) sellers and most European retailers.

Sounds like now or never.

@A Smug Dill I found it on a website in Greece. They answered their chat, and confirmed the pen was in stock in that nib. It’s been a few days.  I don’t know what the price will be, but close to $166. It is priced in Euros. I also looked for reviews of that website, and they are recent and positive.

I looked on PayPal and there is not a cancel an order. You have to contact the seller, which is an issue. You can use the resolution center. I didn’t check that out yet.

I took this literally, and placed the order from zafpens.com

I used a credit card instead of PayPal this time.

A couple of steel-nibbed Wing Sung 629s: black/chrome with rounded ends and fine nib, and red/gold with squared ends and extra-fine nib. Both have the multiple small ink-view windows.

After buying a Sailor Pro Gear Slim "Go USA" on impulse and being quite taken with it, I chanced upon pictures of the similar Negroni, a "European exclusive" and decided I'd like it, too. I spent a couple hours trying to hunt one down and it was, indeed, only available from sellers in Europe. I ended up getting it from Cult.

After telling myself "this is finally it, not more pens"... Pilot 912 WA, Sailor Pro Gear large Pillow Book Midnight Sky... Pelikan M120 Iconic Blue... Another Geha Goldschwinge... A Perfecto Superior. It'll take another little while for them to get to me.

That will mean 56 pens, I will have to accept I am now a collector, much to my shame.

I don't know if this counts as deliberate but it was definitely not impulsive. I've wanted the green marble Aurora Optima for several years, but my searching had so far turned up prices over my self imposed limit. At this year's Dallas Pen Show, a vendor I've bought from before had one. It was, as usual, more than I hoped to pay. He offered $50 off, which was still above my price goal, so I said I'd think about it. I was working at the entrance table during the show, and the guy who was working with me reminded me that near the close of the show, vendors might be more inclined to deal. Just before closing, I went back and asked if the $50 off was the absolute best price he could offer. He then quoted a price just under my limit, and I now have a gorgeous green Optima.

^^ Ceilidh - Congratulations on getting the beautiful pen you've been wanting for some time! The green and blue are on my long-term "to get" list.

I had been looking at the Pilot Custom Urushi in vermillion for a long time, but I never thought about actually buying one because the price is way beyond my limit. I was also very curious about its #30 nib, because I heard so much about how wonderful it is. Also, the urushi body looks so beautiful to in the photos, plain but classic and elegant. But recently, because of the favorable exchange rate, I decided to order one using a Japanese proxy service that can purchase this pen from a store in Japan and then ship it so me in the US. The process went smoothly and very fast. I received the pen in just over a week. I'm extremely happy with this pen and also very impressed with it's quality. The urushi/ebonite body feels wonderful in the hand, and it writes beautifully, right out of the box! I am very grateful for the chance of owning this truly excellent fountain pen.

My Pilot Custom 74 is having a cool journey. It started in Athens, Greece. After visiting the Coliseum, it stopped in Leipzig, Germany.  Maybe it participated in Oktoberfest. Onward to Reykjavik, Iceland where it might have gone to the Blue Lagoon spa. It is now in Franklin Park, Illinois after sneaking up the Sears Tower (I know it got renamed Willis). It should be here tomorrow where it will join my so many pens both stored, inked, new and waiting for cleaning. I’m planning on Diamine Pumpkin as the ink to put in it.  I’d like to visit the places it stopped in.

@chromantic good you stuck with the searching to find the second Sailor.  I hope you enjoy both.

@senzen  I can relate to telling oneself I’ve reached the end of buying, only to buy three or six more. What fun to wait for them to arrive like presents to yourself.

@ruby.monkey Those ink windows sound cool. I might will look them up to see what they look like.

Interesting how the box looks like the Lamy box that Safari and Al-Stars come in (in the US anyway).

Marvelous! A pen with a well-traveled life...I'm sure you will enjoy it. And may you retrace its steps one day!

A Pilot Custom 74 with a Soft Medium nib.  I heard wonderful things about the experience, so I deliberately sought out and bought one.  While I really like the feel of the nib, the pen has flow issues that make it a very disappointing purchase.  Moral of the story: deliberate doesn't equate to satisfactory.
