Vinta Inks Fairytale Collection (4 out of 5) Review

Beware! If you fear glitter, turn back now!

I purchased Vinta Inks Fairytale Collection samples of:

The Maiden--Lakambini 1950 (full bottle)

Clouds of Gray--Pagtangi 1958

Plume--Salimbay 1949

Sea and Sky--Lakbay 1861

These inks are as advertised--pastel colored shimmer delivery vehicles. Perhaps they were meant to look like pastel sparkly gel pens. Here they are on Cosmo Air Light.

This picture speaks a lot for itself. Maiden is a nice warm pink color with gold sparkle made for drawing crowns. Sea and Sky is a tealish grean-shaded blue with red sparkles. Plume is a purple-leaning pastel blue with a subtle (not sure the base color) sparkle. Clouds of Gray is an interesting grey with gold sparkle. There can be some nice shading with the right nib.

Be aware that this sparkle does not stay put. You can literally wipe most of it off. Here is a wipe test where I wiped after the first diamond onward. This is on Tomoe River. It'll come right off of any paper with no effort.

Overall, I want to emphasize there is a LOT of shimmer in here. I also noticed the amount of shimmer you get can vary wildly based on how many seconds passed since you shook the bottle. Plume looks less shimmery but I honestly don't know if that's because the sample had less shimmer in it than average or if it's just the nature of the particles.

Three out of four had an ok flow. Clouds of Gray seemed drier than the others. I could get the other inks to write somewhat with a Lamy EF nib but the gray did not work for me. I suspect all these inks would work and look OK in my Sailor MF but I'm not brave enough to try it. :D The inks washed out pretty easily but the glitter doesn't let go readily.

Overall these inks were fun to try, although, as by design, not very practical. I personally find the underlying color of the maiden and Plume interesting and could see myself using those inks as-is with some of my pens, which is good since I bought a whole bottle of The Maiden. I would be interested in getting a non-shimmer bottle of Plume or something of similar colors from Vinta.

  Thank you for sharing this overview!  And for the warning that like all glitter, it migrates, infesting one's environment...

Thank you for sharing. This is cool.

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

These look like nice. Though I would want to go with the hassle of cleaning those pens

Right now, I am treating "clean" as relative :D

I finally got pens cleaned and then started inking but work got in the way!

@dragondazd I'd love to send you a letter with some glittery inks.
