Wanted: Burgundy-Purple Ink, Wet and Saturated

GNL

Recommended Posts

Hello FPNers - I’m searching for a burgundy ink that tends more toward purple than red.  Purgundy?  Burple?  I like wet inks that are highly saturated, rather than milky or murky in appearance.  Shading is nice, but not required.

Thanks!

GNL

Current favorite pen: Montblanc 144 Meisterstuck purchased at Art Brown in 1984. After decades, every part has been replaced except the nib. Still a gorgeous writing instrument, rock-solid reliable, gives me hours of pleasure to use.

Current favorite ink: Colorverse Supernovs

Current favorite paper: Romeo notepads

Cult Pens Deep Dark Purple might suit your needs. It's neither deep nor dark, and definitely leans more towards burgundy than I'd expect from a purple, so I didn't care for it, but it does match your description.

I am very interested in this topic! My first bottle was PR Burgundy Mist and I spilled it a while back. For years I assumed I could get another bottle. Oops.

If you look at the purple thread in my signature link, you will find a bunch.  Also, you can look at this gallery:

But the gallery doesn't have all images from other people.

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

Consider determining the hex code for the color of interest and then go to https://inkswatch.com/choice.html and put in that code.  It will give you a variety of inks that match.  You can then check out reviews to see which are rated as wet-flowing.

Liz, I had no idea this existed!  Thanks!

Diamine Merlot fits.

There is (was? not sure) also Montblanc Burgundy red. I bought the last bottle when our boutique closed here some years ago.

Wow! Two amazingly helpful sites that I was unaware of - thanks for posting. I can now start the search for a proper dark aka-tamenuri ink.

Is this for a aka-tamenuri urushi pen? If I was looking for a matching ink that's saturated I think I'd look at Fritz Schimpf Morgenroete, KWZ Maroon, or Robert Oster Maroon 1789 but I don't see those as purple-leaning burgundies - more like rich, brown-leaning burgundy.

OK, I may have a few ideas that may suit your criteria:

In addition to the Diamine MERLOT and Noodler's TULIPE NOIR already mentioned,

L'Artisan Pastellier Callifolio BOURGOGNE

Bungubox L'AMANT

Pelikan AMETHYST

Herbin POUSIÈRE de LUNE

Hope this helps!
