I'll admit that I tend to flush just one pen at a time (I don't have an ultrasonic cleaner, so I'm going old style, and flush/soak them nib down in a votive candle holder with straight sides (a little less tippy than I think a shot glass would be), then drain then after flushing with distilled water to get the flush (either a little clear ammonia and a drop of Dawn in distilled water, or -- for IG inks --  substituting household vinegar for the ammonia).  But at the moment I'm trying to NOT ink up any NEW pens (although I may refill some of the inked up ones) until I get some more flushed out, because I've got too many in rotation.

Next in the queue is the Parker Vacumatic Green Shadow Wave.  Meant to do it earlier in the day but I was really draggy all day and then had to go to choir rehearsal, and then gave someone a ride home and got lost because I hadn't been in the back side of the town she lives in before, and missed a couple of turns.  And now it's after midnight (so, Tuesday) and I really need to crash -- as soon as I finally get the last couple of things in the kitchen sink washed up from dinner....

Flushing a second P51 that I found when I cleaned out my desk drawer yesterday.

It's hard work to tell which is Old Harry when everybody's got boots on.

Today it's been the Green Shadow Wave Vac, flushing out a fill of Waterman Tender Purple after getting some work done on it at the Ohio Pen Show in November.

Stipula Ventidue Silver Touch - the Goulet pens special.  I did it the VERY HARD way.  I was obsessive compulsive about getting rid of an ink residue ring on this demonstrator.  So, I took out the nib + feed.  Then, to remove the threaded collar that the nib goes into.  This required heating the section in hot water, then using the tip of the ear syringe that I use to flush out cartridge converter pens with, into the open part of the collar, and twisting.  This finally allowed the collar of the nib unit to come out.  Then, remove an O-ring at the base of the collar.  I managed to shove a moistened Q-tip through the opening in the pen body, into the ink chamber.  I cleaned out the ink ring.  When I removed the Q-tip, the cotton bud got pulled off, and remained inside the pen.  DRAT!!!!

I brought the pen (minus nib unit) to work with me.  Luckily, I do work in surgery, so I managed to use micro graspers to remove the "foreign body" out of my pen.

Pen is now reassembled, and it looks very clean.  I don't recommend this process to anyone though.

Currently soaking a couple of recent Ebay purchases which both arrived yesterday - both are Parker 45 Flighters although one has lost its black tassie from the end of the barrel.

Spent since yesterday trying to flush the Lapis Lady Duofold out (I was told that it was restored when I bought it, but the button filler seems really hard to get to work right -- it's very stiff).  So, it's still sort of oozing Waterman Serenity Blue out of the nib and feed... slowly... into distilled water, after trying another round earlier this morning of ammonia solution.

My new Sheaffer, pretty sure it’s a 777.  It came all the way from Puerto Rico.

I got them out, wrote with them, realized why they had been on the shelf so long, cleaned them, and put them back.

The mega pen clean has begun. Life got in the way of like actually having a life for many months and my pens, use and care, was neglected. I just used whatever was already filled, left them to pile up be cleaned 'later' as the ink ran out and I couldn't be bothered finding the bottle to top anything up. Mostly TWSBIs cos they had lots of ink and I knew they would write without any hassle. I was already struggling with hassles.

Now, I need to go though everything else that was left inked and clean the ones that have dried out. Yesterday that meant three Parker 45s, two Lamy Studio and two Lamy Aion. I'm disappointed by all those, I expected better sealing on next-level Lamys and had high hope for the older Parkers, erroneously thinking they might be better made than the modern models. OK, so my climate is very hot and dry and the aircon makes it even drier. It's tough on pens, so I accept the need to clean out the Safaris et al at the end of winter... that ink 'window' doesn't given them a chance, but the Aion and the Studio? Really, it's kinda sad.

The next drawer has TWSBI 580s and Opus 88 Picnics. I can safely ignore those, they will be fine!

Next...

Will work for pens...

I got a Nahvalur Nautilus, blue/black ebonite, in a Goldspot mystery in November. Nice pen, very nice. I finally finished it yesterday (piston-fillers hold a LOT of ink, and it was not the only pen I had inked up).

I finally finished a Waterman long cartridge that went through 2 pens and 3 different calligraphy nibs, so I put away said calligraphy pen and the last nib, a 0.7.

My mid-summer 'Life got in the way' Great Pen Clean continues - just a few each day. Today it was the turn of a bunch of Pilot pens - Metropolitan and Plumix - and a Lamy Safari that had entirely dried out. Powdered ink... Easily cleaned and pretty much expected.

More notable is the three Daiso pens that have been inked since 2020 and still write perfectly. Not used much obviously, but not dried out like so many others stored in the same conditions (and had been inked far more recently!). So that's 3 Daiso pens not getting cleaned today cos  they don't need to be. 🙂
