What Pen did you clean out today?

Nothing today (yet) but yesterday I finished flushing out the Sailor 1911S Loch Ness Monster, MF nib.  The pen had gone missing but I found it under the driver's seat in the Prius while putting groceries in the back.  Had to fish around a bit for the cap which had somehow unscrewed itself from the cap (and don't know how long the pen and cap had been there).  So cleaning out the converter with a mostly full fill of Sailor Souboku was a PITA, since some of the ink had clearly started to congeal in the converter chamber. :(  But it now seems to not be leaching out any residual ink (yay).

I do like that Loch Ness Monster color and I’m glad you were able to find it.  Such a nice pen. I feel like I should take a look under my car seats and see if there’s anything there other than old masks, Kleenex, and receipts.

Today, I cleaned out my blue Lamy Safari, which has been inked for years.  Also my Cross Solo, and I’m happy to say the Platinum Carbon Black washed out easily.

You know, back in the day, I’m not sure it ever occurred to me to clean out a fountain pen.  I just used continuous fills of Skrip or Quink, one after another.

Currently most used pen: Lamy 2000, Makrolon <F> -- filled with Lamy Pink Cliff ink

Nothing today, but tomorrow at least 1/4th of a overly full pen cup. Customs released the coming ink...last Friday:D, and it hasn't moved an inch since:huh:...but soon, before Christmas even, my 6 inks will come in. And I need to have more than the 8 pens not yet used out of the 11 cleaned two or so weeks ago, in anticipation of getting these inks.

I'll admit that I was a little disappointed when it came, because the promo photos made it look more blue-grey, rather than teal blue (to the point I was afraid I'd been sent the wrong pen by mistake).  Also now wishing that I had gotten it with the music nib, and gotten the Wicked Witch of the West pen (gotten at the same time) with the MF nib -- because I'd use the Wicked Witch pen more than I do.

Well, it's challenging to gauge colors from the website photo.  If I could, I'd buy all of my pens from a physical store or at a pen show.

Really hoping I can get to the PNW pen show next year... fingers crossed.

After draining overnight in a paper towel, these will of course need a quick re-clean in the morning....before my new shading inks finally...finally get here.

I will be doing my first full Ink Reviews on them....so want enough ink laid down.

The 10-11, I cleaned up first, some two weeks ago, for the Ink reviews are sure to be more M's and an occasional F.

......................

Osmia 62, Semi-flex BB.

Parker Vac BB.

Parker P-75, M.

Parker 50 @ round tip nib is the whole body eyeballed to B/BB.

Pelikan 381 cartridge pen, OB.

Pelikan small W.Germany 600, OBB is half a width narrower than the next.

Pelikan 805 OBB.

and the last this time.

Pelikan Toledo Hunter, B.

...............................

Some pens cleaned out nice and easy...different from last time....only a couple took time.

One ink cleaned out of my Pelikan piston pen, ever so fast....Octopus Bronze.

It shocked me when I looked up what ink was in another pen, that an ink from the same company Octopus .... Unicorn, a shading shimmer ink, took for ever to clean out.

@Bo Bo Olson, you clean out your pens twice before changing inks?  Does this mean you are still getting some ink out after they’ve dried the first time? It has never occurred to me to try this.

My Pelikan 140 had run dry so I gave it a quick rinse out and re-inked it with the MV Sapphire I've been using in it forever.

Yes. Clean like hell, thinking there is no more ink. Wrap in a paper towel...3-4 pens...by me, let the towel absorb ink for a night.

Then the next morning , There Is More ink in the pen still.  Piston pens more than CC pens.

I've had that problem in various pens.  I think that a pen is running clean but then after draining into paper toweling I'm still getting residual ink leaching out of the nib and feed.

When I dry them point-down into the paper towels, I don't think there's any ink.  But now I'm not sure I've really checked....  Time to scrutinize my process.

I was happy just thinking after cleaning and setting in a paper towel over night was enough.

Then in the first huge batch of pens I did...for these 6 coming inks....needing extra clean for the ink Reviews, I intend to do, checked those pens and found out squeaky clean, needed two tries. So I was not the least surprise my second batch of pens, needed a second cleaning.

For some 15 years, I'd been only doing a clean and drain:gaah:, not two to go.

Just found out, two of those pens that were "twice clean" needed a third time.

Two Montblanc Flügelfedern: one grey 252, and one green 254.

The grey is now filled with Taccia / Naka murasaki, and the green

with Waterman/Tender Purple.

Yeah, I often have that experience, where any residual liquid runs clear into the paper toweling.  But not that time.... :wallbash:

Today a Twsbi dark green had a deep cleaning. It had ink but hadn't been used for several weeks, more than six, it wrote without any problem but the barrel looked stained. After some tap water rinse the blue ink from the barrel desaperar. The ink was Pilot and now I will use an old Sheaffer brown ink (25 or more years).

These pens cleaned out for the 3 or 4th times.

3rd time, an Osmia 773, semi-flex stubbed KM.

'91=97 Pelikan tortoise M.

200 marbled blue B and 200 Petrol M

Osmia-Faber-Castel  52 semi-flex BB.

Looks like all of them will need yet another cleaning...cleaned again this morning and the paper towel shows stains.

I have one or two pens I still do this with. My Pelikan 140, which I bought in August 2017, outside of two fillsnin the first 30 days I had it has been continuously inked with Pelikan 4001 Blue Black. I give it a clear water flush maybe once or twice a year. The last one was earlier this year, before that 9-12 months earlier. (Maybe more)
