What Pen did you clean out today?

The pen gods were sitting around one day bored and apparently irascible. “What we could we come up with that would be the most heinous, tedious thing in the world to clean”? “I know, a clear demonstrator vacuum filler”! “Great idea, and while we’re at it let’s make those pens appeal to people with a penchant for both shimmer inks and letting their pens sit for a loooong time”! One TWSBI Min-vac and one Narwhal. And her Conklin crescent filler for good measure.

A couple of days ago it was the M400 Café Crème, B nib, after finishing a fill of diluted 4001 Blue Black.  At some point, I need to flush out one of the recent acquisition blue Vectors (both having the same date code and both with medium nibs) after finishing a fill of Noodler's Grinch Garnet this morning.

Jump the gun by a few hours, in it's closing in on midnight...I've got Lamy Dark Lilac ink coming in the morning.

So I will clean out my 1990 Lamy Persona B...CI. In Hopes of Sheen.7tsPapv.jpg

Inks that were supposed to sheen, some 6, ..... 4 from India (two didn't sheen at all), 2 from Germany....

I had to tilt the paper to see a hint and a half, not more. On good to better papers.

Tomorrow, I'll be cleaning out this pen, to find out if I have to order Japanese papers for sheen. That would be sad.

I do have good Euro shading papers.

In reference to P. T. Barnum; to advise for free is foolish, ........busybodies are ill liked by both factions.

Ransom Bucket cost me many of my pictures taken by a poor camera that was finally tossed. Luckily, the Chicken Scratch pictures also vanished.

The Persona is such a pretty pen. It sort of reminds me of the Eversharp Skyline.

There is an optometrist in my village that also has an antique and oddities consignment store attached to his eye shop.

This more than a while back....I went in and asked if he had any fountain pens...and he had a Persona, a first view of such a thing. I was still in my bottom feeding €50 limit. And he wanted €100 :yikes:for it.

I declined.....way too expensive.

So I pulled it up on the net showed it to my wife...spent some time looking up who designed it...in it does look very Art Deco.

WHAT A MISTAKE!

The next day my wife bought it for me...she says for less than €100. I believe her. She spent three weeks in Egypt and learned to bargain. Something most Germans and many Europeans don't know.

Lamy Dark Lilac …….No Shading!!!, absolutely No Sheen!!!

Color’s nice. Would have been happy with it, back when this ink as LE first come out, without rumors of sheen. I got downtown in July and was told they ran out in May.

Going to have to spend a fortune on Japanese papers.

Lamy Persona B…CI. The Cursive Italic nib gives the letters a nice form.

…………………………

My good to better papers……….I have another 20 or so papers floating around, but these are on the whole as good, so there is no reason to have them all out.

Oxford Optic 90g, = Clairefontaine Veloute` 90g. (great spiral notebooks. I always have an estra pne on hand.)

Kyome 70g = or near = to Optic.

(discontinued) Neusiedler Japan Post 80g

Zander’s Gohrsmuehle Bank Post (bond) 80g

Artoz Bütten, hammered handmade paper, 80g…Swiss. Those papers were also one of the nice but soon, not as good as I thought. Not going to go back to the shop.

Mondi Color Copy 120g good, …Mondi 100g (a $$$ disappointment)

Clairefontaine Triomphe 90g

M&K 95g (Office, the new name for the old Typing paper) I like the other two M&K papers also…I have tied and hate all the other Brunner papers. M&K was a big name in the ‘50-60’s and being a good paper has remained.

170g Gmund. My best paper for writing. And then at €40 for 100 sheets; a desert only. Took me only 3-4 years of dithering over 12 sample sheets to get down to 3, and at the last second liking heavy paper took the 170g over the hair better 120g.

Avery Zweckform 170g. Too slick feeling to write with, but my best test paper….the only Avery Zweckfrom that is worth buying. My best shading paper…with Lamy Dark Lilic; no shading, no sheen.

Hey @Bo Bo Olson, if you want to trade some paper, I  would love to send you a package of Iroful (or new Tomoe River, if that’s your preference) for some of your good European papers, even the Kyome which I can’t get in the US. That way, all you spend is postage.

You are on....

You PM me about what papers you would like. Which you think I would like or need.

I'll send you some nice papers...like the Aldi papers (laid, linen, bütten and marbled that jump started my paper search a decade ago...that marbled one was such a pleasant surprise.), and a number of others.

This reminds me I have to send a few papers to someone that loves that old discontinued Aldi bütten paper. I have another a Swiss one, that was good enough to keep.

We can talk papers a bit.

In a little while I will make a first pass at flushing out the Parker 61 I just picked up this morning at an estate sale at the company's showroom up river.  Of course, if it's anything like my OTHER 61s, there will probably be so much dried ink in the capillary filler that I'll get the ink reconstituted enough to be able to write with the pen.  Just like with most of my other 61s....

Today I cleaned a newly acquired Parker 51, and my Cross Townsend Medalist. The Parker was in fact quite clean already but it doesn’t hurt to make sure. The Cross…ugh. My own fault, but I’d left it inked and forgotten about it, and it’s probably been a year or more since I last used it. Let me tell ya, I spent all afternoon cleaning that thing!

Pelikan M605 black tortoise. Cleaned out and ready for Kirk to work his magic on the nib.

Scribe Piuma orange. Wide, wet stub nib ground narrower and crisper by Annabelle Hiller at the San Francisco Pen Show. The nib is still too wet with Anabelle's Diamine ink, so I cleaned it out and subbed in Pelican Black. I think it's going to do the job for me.
