Today it was the Vac Silver Pearl Major, finishing a fill of (at that point) diluted vintage Quink Permanent Violet.

I may have had more Parker's, if they had more than BB and blue Quink. But this is Germany and I wasn't into cartridges as is.......have some but they are not on my A list.

Ransom Bucket cost me many of my pictures taken by a poor camera that was finally tossed. Luckily, the Chicken Scratch pictures also vanished.

Cleaned the Ranga Monterey. Changed from Iroshizuku Kon Peki to Edelstein Sapphire. Refilled my Jinhao 599 with Ferris Wheel Press Writing Desk.

It was bath time today for the Onoto Excel - finally - and a Manuscript pen that I discovered was, like a naughty child, in need of a long overdue wash.

Jinhao 992, in an attempt to exorcise KTC. today I'm getting out the bottle for a close inspection. I thought the ink had corroded the nib BUT, having cleaned the pen and inspected the nib under good light with a loupe, I now think it had mold.

Is this known as "mold" when it's in my pen?

The ink in the bottle looks and smells fine. I used a stainless probe (sterilized first) to probe to the bottom of the bottle, no obvious slime or chunky bits. The ink is very opaque, can't see through it at all even with a high-power flashlight.

I used a fresh syringe to fill the converter, which was brand new, and I had flushed the pen the day prior and left it to air dry overnight.

So I don't know what the issue was.

Here's a photo.

@SLinkster-  It looks like mold to me, but I can’t be sure. I would sterilize the nib and replace the feed just to be sure, sterilize the converter as well. You could replace all three, Aliexpress has extras for cheap. That way you can refill with the ink and see if it reoccurs.

@Penguincollector - I decided to take the cowardly way out and just tossed the whole pen. They're cheap and it's rather waste a pen than risk spreading the contagion.

That’s the smartest thing to do, I would do the same; I just wanted to offer solutions in case you really liked it.

I’m still cleaning out a Staedtler IM  pen. It came to me with a full cartridge of their pink already installed, so I don’t know how long it sat in the pen, but I have been soaking and flushing the nib section for a week and the water is still pink. I just rinsed the tester blue out of my new 2000.

  • 2 weeks later...

Another batch cleaned whilst I was in a fit of enthusiasm. Just have to remember not to leave any blue spots on the kitchen bench in future.20240314_193505.thumb.jpg.e9b0122d0946405704559ecb99ddfdd9.jpg
