Sheaffer Balance Oversize with an unusual broad left oblique nib.  One of my prize pens, but I realised that in my prep for a house move, the move itself and then getting things sorted in the new house, I'd really neglected it.  The sac was shot.  But it's now been replaced and I'm good to go with the beauty again!

Gorgeous pen!

I can't wait to see it in action!

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

I cleaned a whole lot of pens.

I still can't find my nib to my
Sterling Silver Parker.  It has been months.

Thank you for that pic, @amberleadavis; it's both inspiring and comforting to see such passion.

Cleaned out a 743 (FA), AL-Star (EF), and a Namisu N1 (F).

Looks like you have a cat! I have to protect all of my cables from my cat. I'm still expecting a "Christmas Vacation" fluffy event at my house one day.

Two Kaweco Perkeos and a Pilot Prera Slate Grey.

The All Black Perkeo is in semi-retirement having fulfilled it's task - to help me be as certain as possible that a pen with a posting nib would work for me. It did that and a Pilot 912 with a posting nib has now pushed it out of the pen pocket on the front of my Bullet Journal. I will keep the Perkeo in case I want to take the BuJo out of the house. The 912 is (for me) a treasured and expensive pen that I wouldn't want to risk losing. The Cotton Candy Perkeo with F nib kindly finished off the ink that was left in the All Black's converter.

The Pilot Prera Slate Grey only arrived a few days ago. Another long considered purchase finally fulfilled. I transplanted a fine italic nib into it from a Plumix and inked it with the Iroshizuku fuyu-syogun. Way too pale!!! It will be filled with Diamine Graphite next - just a half fill - to see if that's better. The standard here is high: I want a cool grey which is as perfect as Robert Oster's 'Motor Oil' in my brown Prera with the same nib. They are to make a pair. Brown with brown, grey with grey.

  • 2 weeks later...

I emptied and refilled up a number of pens this week, but only this one is being completely cleaned for a change of colour. It had, after all, been running R&K Document Brown since April 2017... and only ever topped up with the same ink. Time for a clean, I thought. It was a bigger event than usual mainly due to the document ink. Water and the ultrasonic cleaner wasn't enough, so I drew a little of the R&K Reiniger pen cleaner into the pen and left it for five minutes before flushing it out with water. The piston was too stiff as well, so for the first time ever, it was out with a TWSBI wrench... grateful for the instructions found on YouTube. All good now. Sparkling.

Two Lamy Al-star this week - Blue Green and Graphite - cos, it's winter and safe to get all the pens out to play that dry out so badly the rest of the year. I love winter.

And the Pretty Pink Platinum Pocket Pen just arrived. It took some cleaning. There must have been a whole cartridge of ink in the section - thankfully blue.

Great question!  I'm glad you asked, because it's kind of a fun story.

As fate would have it, I was sitting on my couch today when I remembered a pen I'd stuck in my watch box years ago.  Lately, I've been cleaning up and refurbing some old pens and I realized I'd forgotten all about that one.  I couldn't even remember what it was.  I'd bought it long before I ever got interested in collecting FP's, back then I just liked to write with them.

It turns out the pen is a Waterman of some variety, not sure which.  I don't think it's a treasure or anything, but it seems like a nice pen.  I'll have to look into what model it is in the coming days.  Shame on me, but I'd left the pen in a sorry state.  I'd basically just left the inked pen to dry out some years ago (probably 15 or more).  I figured I was going to have a job ahead of me.  I was mad at myself for doing such a stupid thing, I knew better, but for whatever reason this is what appeared to have happened.

I rolled up my sleeves and started to clean out the pen.  It really didn't take very long at all; with some warm water and some TLC I had the pen back sparkling clean in no time really.  I wasn't sure what I was going to be dealing with in terms of clogs, etc., so I inked up the pen with some Waterman Blue ink I've had laying around, mostly because that's a pretty wet ink which I figured might help.  To my surprise, the pen started right up and acted like it was a brand new pen.  Writes as smooth as (adjective I am discouraged from using because of the sick and twisted society we live in today).

So, I'm pretty happy tonight.  Cleaned up and old pen, and wound up with a really nice writer.  Always a good feeling!

I hope your winter is just cool enough to have fun (and no cooler).

I'll admit that that statement was very unsettling on first read, but I'm happy for your surprise fortune.

Cleaned out a brass pocket Piuma and a Preppy.

Will get to the Falcon, Pro Gear, and Duo Cart sometime this week
