What Pen did you clean out today?

An Airmail 58SL with a FPR architect nib and whatever black ink was handy.

I want to like this pen. It was a cheap way to try an A-nib. Sadly the experience has been underwhelming so into the drawer it goes.

Today I cleaned out a Jinhao 450 and my Parker 45.

The Jinhao is heavier than I like these days so it's going into the drawer.

I love the Parker 45. It's one of - maybe the - the first pens I bought with my own money. I've had it since the 70s, when avocado green was fashionable in so many ways 🥑🥑🥑

I only do a deep clean on the Parker when I'm changing ink brand/formulation or color so it's currently drying on my worktable. I had Herbin Violette Pensee in this pen for a year or so but I'm planning to load it with something green, or maybe something approximating harvest gold 😉

Yesterday it was the Monteverde Strata a friend gave me, cleaning out the dregs of some diluted Noodler's Violet.  Not sure I got all the ink out though -- there seemed to be some color in the paper toweling the pen was draining into....

"It's very nice, but frankly, when I signed that list for a P-51, what I had in mind was a fountain pen."

Lamy 27, I'm not sure which version, one of the middle years I think, cap is resin rather than metal. It provided good service with it's Fine K(ogel?) nib (which actually was what I consider Fine in width), writing nine A4 pages on this filling. It always started right up, no hard starts or hesitations, neither too wet nor too dry. A very reliable pen, definitely in my "keep it" category.

Those colors are so comforting to me. I also somehow always think of the ‘70’s in the colors of a Polaroid picture.  I’m not sure what the base color of Diamine Golden Sands is, but that shade screams ‘70s to me.

Jaipur 2, ultraflex nib.  I've had trouble with the piston sticking in the barrel, so I clean out the pen after each use.

Today I wanted to flush my little green Estie J. Apparently I don't know my own strength, as the section, which I swapped a couple of weeks ago, won't unscrew. So now I'm thinking about non-destructive ways to fix that.

Most recent batch:

  • Leonardo Supernova - pretty quick for a piston
  • Two Lamy Vistas. The one with Birmingham Lightning took forever to clean out. It was the blue coloring, not the glitter, that was stubborn
  • Diplomat Magnum

I’m cleaning out a button filler-Parker Duofold Geometric. Currently nib down in a paper towel filled beaker. Let’s see how long this takes.
