My Parker 51 after the umpteenth non start and effort to get it writing. Washed through with hot water and flushed. The amount of ink flushed out was ridiculous. To say it would not write despite re-priming and generally running on blotting paper. So in the end got a proper wash and a cartridge put in instead of converter. If it stops writing again or hard starts again nib will be bent and pen will end up in bin along with box

Is this a vintage 51 or one of the reissued ones?

That's what I was guessing, but wanted to make sure.  At the price they're charging for those, I'll DEFINITELY stick to vintage 51s found in the wild....

After the Urban from Hell, the ONLY "modern" (as in post-1980) Parkers I tend to want to buy are Vectors.  And I've had very little trouble with those.  Would not want to try and write the Great American Novel™ with a pen that skinny, but for being effectively "school" pens?  Mine are little workhorses.  And they're inexpensive enough that if there's a problem?  Ehhh.  Not out a lot of money.  Although I HAVE paid less for at least one of the vintage 51s (not counting the cost of nib work) than a couple of the Vectors if you factor in the cost of a twist converter on some of those....  (two bucks US for the Forest Green Aero plus another $20 for a bit of nib work).

I cleaned the remnants of a Yu-Yake sample out of my TWSBI 580 after finally concluding that the ink had no properties that I liked better than my other orange-ish inks. (Kin-Mokusei, FPR Tangerine Dream, Mont. Fire Opal, Diamine Autumn Oak.)

With good progress made towards finding my ultimate orange I am switching gears to green.

My utterly prosaic blue Jinhao 51A XF.  I'm still soaking it, because it ran my bête noire of ink, Noodler's Bad Black Moccasin, for so many years, and it's still coming out .  But that ink is now all gone (I did wind up pouring out some 30-40% of the bottle).  Next up is a blue FPR Jaipur, which was writing far too wet and got emptied into my emerald Himalaya that is MUCH better behaved.

The CON-70 in my metal Falcon keeps having an ink film adhering to the sides even when otherwise empty.  Going to agitate with a dilute dishwashing soap solution and follow up with some pen flush and see what happens.  It’s the oldest pen by far in my ver modest collection and may just be time to go ahead and buy a new converter for it.
